Falling Slowly Glen Hansard & Maketa Irglova - (AC) :mblah05: :sleepy1:
This song sure doesn’t do a thing for me. Slow, plodding and boring. Wake me up when it’s over. I wouldn’t even want to play this for background music.

Finally (Radio Edit) – Fergie – (CHR)
I’m going to have to give props to Fergie on this one. It’s a slow song, but it has “emotion” and reminds me of what Bette Midler might have done years ago. Definitely one of my favorites by Fergie so far and was very surprised how mature she sounded on this cut.

Leavin’Jesse McCartney – (CHR)
Hmmm, can you say “Justin Timberlake-Lite”? Not a bad pop song and might go over well with the younger ladies.

Little Miss Obsessive (Album Version) – Ashlee Simpson (CHR)
Well Ashlee is not going to win any awards for “great singing”, but this harmless wanna-be pop/rock song is a whole lot more tolerable than I thought it was going to be. The chorus is what saves this song, although it never seems to take off.

How Many Words (Album Version) – Blake Lewis (CHR)
Right out of the chute, Blake starts of with his obnoxious “beat-boxing.” I guess that he has to do this as it’s his “formula” but it gets really old, real fast for me. The rest of the song could have been right out of the soft-dance-pop from the ‘80’s.

Drop (Clean) – Ying Yang Twins (URBAN)
Heavy synth line drives this song and will probably go over well with the right crowd. Didn’t really want to like this, but it has grown on me.

Last Time (Radio Edit) – Trey Songz (URBAN) :sleepy1:
A slow-groove song that never seems to catch my attention with a hook or anything outstanding, it’s just there…..and forgotten very quickly.

Get Like Me (Clean) – David Banner / Feat. Chris Brown (URBAN) :puke:
Thud, thud, boom, boom…..you’ll hear this one rattling your doors and windows of your house as the cars drive by. Why was this even recorded?

How We Do It (Around My Way)
Lloyd/ Feat. Ludacris (URBAN)
Buzzing synthesizers and a clap/beat drives this song, in spite of the “nursery rhyme” style rapping by Ludacris.

Life Of Da Party (Clean) – Snoop Dogg/ Feat. Too Short (URBAN)
Snoop lays down the rhymes over a very catchy recording. My only complaint is that it’s just a bit too long and would be better chopping about 1 minute off of it.

Every Other WeekendReba McEntire/ Duet with Skip Ewing (COUNTRY):sleepy4:
What a depressing song about a divorced couple palming their kids off on each other “every other weekend” and carrying that unrequited torch for each other. Fasten hose to exhaust, start car and breathe deeply.

If You Didn’t Love Me (Album Version) – Phil Stacey (COUNTRY)
Yes this is the same Phil Stacey from Season 6 of American Idol. He was the bald, ex-Navy guy that liked to wear funky hats. Cowritten by the vocalist out of Rascal Flatts, so this song is very derivative of their style.

Braid My Hair (Radio Edit) – Randy Owen (COUNTRY)
Mr. Alabama’s first single (produced by John Rich) is about a little girl with cancer who has lost her hair due to the chemotherapy treatments. Very sad subject but hope is the key message.

Requiem For A Dying SongFlogging Molly (ROCK):headbang::clap:
This has to be my favorite song on this week’s release. Right off the bat, this song grabbed my attention and kept it to the end. An in your face pub song that should be played really loud anytime of the day!

World’s Away From First To Last (ROCK)
Reminds me of a U2 (Under A Blood Red Sky) sound meets Fallout Boy for a very pleasing, radio friendly song. Catchy guitar riff, and some big drums baby…

AddictedSaving Abel (ROCK)
When I first heard this I thought it was Hinder. In spite of the similarities, I find this a very decent harder rock song that could get some air-play.

See You Again (Johhny Coppola-Dance You Again Remix) – Miley Cyrus (DANCE) :glasses9:
I wear my sunglasses at night….oh wait a minute; this isn’t that song! Teenage pop song with a dance remix. I’m quite ashamed of myself as I find myself singing along with this one.

Run The Show (Johhny Vicious Radio Mix) – Kat Deluna (DANCE)
Driving beat, but not as catchy as “Whine Up”, but still fairly infectious.

Where Your Heart Belongs (Album Version) – Mainstay (CHRISTIAN)
Nicely played and produced but not real memorable.

Top Of My Lungs Phillips, Craig & Dean (CHRISTIAN)
Decent song that really takes off with the chorus. I can see the crowd waving their lighted cell-phones when this is played in concert.

Kirby welcome back off the Primecuts vacation I expect to see these each addition and appreciate it immensely.
The Ying Yang Twins always have a slick tune I have liked nearly everything after the Twurkalator. The only reason the one song you mentioned was recorded and in rotation or on disc is cause how hot Chris Brown has become sometimes referred to as Canada's Usher.
I kind of liked the Blake Edwards tune and yes it sounded like typical 80's Euro. Keep the reviews coming my friend.
Now I'm anxious to hear the Flogging Mollys latest.

I would have liked the Blake song better, if he'd left out his "hiccuping"... :sqwink::D

They Ying-Yang song is catchy but I thought the production was a bit "noisy"..

But, it's different strokes for different folks....Right? :)

And remember these are my biased opinions.... :)

Prime Cuts 03/07/08 should be posted in a day or two....It's been a busy week....

What I try to do is listen to these straight through 3-4 times without looking at the track listings on the cd cover. That way I'm not taking into account my normal prejudice for or against an artist while listening to it for the initial listenings.

I'll listen to them on my stereo, my boombox at work, through speakers, through headphones so I can experience the songs under various conditions.

Then I will listen to it on "shuffle" so I won't know what's coming next.

I'll take these to work and listen to the disc maybe a total of 10-20 times before I do the review. So if I end up not liking a song, I'm really sick of it by then.

If anyone has any suggestions, comments, feedback, etc. I would greatly appreciate your participation. I'm not doing these for myself, and would hope that we could get some discussions going on the music that we might or might not play. :)

Im here for ya Kirb. I will try to combine this with Sue and Cam and please Add your picks for future Chart breakers as you have them first as well. Im making a list each month and we will see which songs made it or died as they go into the charts and on Radio.

I try and comment on your post of these cd's.

I just find it how amazingly far behind the cd's are compared to my playlist. Generally when I see one of your Prime Cuts post I heard all the music on the release about 2 months ago.

I use Promo Only. I get Modern Rock, Mainstream, Urban, Urban Club and Country.
I still have to venture and look for music as promo is a few weeks behind where I would like to be. I want my music before any radio station in the country thinks about playing it.

Finally (Radio Edit) – Fergie ---The radio is picking this one up, I honestly think it's terrible

Drop (Clean) – Ying Yang Twins (URBAN) --- I tried this back in Jan when it was released and no one seemed to care

Life Of Da Party (Clean) – Snoop Dogg/ Feat. Too Short (URBAN) --- I liked this one but it seems the radio is moving on to his next single "Cool" It never caught on here I will give it more time, but tonight I'm pulling it for his new single "Cool"

Requiem For A Dying Song – Flogging Molly (ROCK) Good song I play it when I want something New Rock

Addicted – Saving Abel (ROCK) Great Song, Great Band. This will be a band that takes off this summer.

As for the other songs they are either bad, not a hit, or not the genre I play.

Cam, apparently you don't know how PrimeCuts works. This is straight from their website:

PrimeCuts contains all the radio edit hits that crack the Top 30 Charts of AC, Hot AC, CHR, Urban, Country, Rock/Alternative, Dance and Christian. PrimeCuts is shipped every week, 52 weeks a year. If it's a hit, it's on PrimeCuts!
Promo Only works on an entirely different principle. They put songs on their CDs that they think will be hits. By doing that, they send you stuff that never see the light of day.

PrimeCuts waits until the songs are bona fide hits (I made that term a link to its definition for Kris Nardini) before they release them.

Tell me about it! There is a ton of waste no matter which service you use. I don't get a lot of use out of the Hot AC, CHR, Country, Rock/Alternative, Dance and Christian stuff they send because it seems that the only new music people want to hear around here is Rap with the occasional R&B song.

I startted getting Promo Only Urban Club about 2 years ago because it will have the songs sometimes 2 to 3 months before thy hit a mainsteam cd. All uban radio stations play different songs too.

Urban Club is Uncensored most of the time so, I still need Urban Radio for Teen Parties.

In my situation It's very hard, I always need to be 1 step ahead of the radio.

I notice most hits, I start getting request a few weeks before they are played on the radio for the 1st time.

By The Time it hit's #1 I have been playing it for it seems like ever.

With sat radio people are listening to alot more music.

It's a waste in that I'll never play it. Just because a song is a hit somewhere does not mean that I'll ever have the occasion to play it. Make sense now?

I can see your point. I just approach it from the you'll never know if you're gonna need it camp so if I can nail multiple genre's at a good price so much the better.

Exactly. That's why I tried PrimeCuts Monthly for a year (2007) but switched back to Weekly after being caught without popular songs too many times!

PrimeCuts weekly for me, wish they still had the Dance series though no else comes in that department to what they had.

Im doing the2 disc a week Canadian Primecuts. Im seeing I need the weekly as Im still waiting for a hit a week out sometimes. There needs to be a better way for DJs to show they are on their A Game. Nothing like having a request at a School Dance and not getting it til a week later.

2 words guys LIME WIRE than you pic only the songs you like and the best part ....they are FREE!!!!

Just Kiddin ....Kirby I have got addicted to the Drop song and I have high hopes for that one

I hope to be able to contribute in the future as I just signed up for PrimeCuts Weekly.

Their regional manager asked me how I heard of them and I said OurDJTalk.com!
