Early on I like to get a feeling for my crowd. I will usually start out with a few sets of 2 songs per set. I will include old, new and in between. Then for me there I like to Gage there response. I like to do that for very specific reasons. So that everyone will know within the first 20 minute that everyone will hear music they like. And that i get a feel for the group.

Depends on the crowd.

I too vary it based on the event.

I personally like to start kinda weak..and build into my hit songs about 15 minutes into an event.

However..if I am doing an event where I know my guests are ready to jam out...then I amp it up right away.

Very tough question to respond to.

You want my best? My so-called secret arsenal? You want to know how the Duck gets the party going every single time? You need to share yours first.

Sorry, but I've seen people get tossed for admitting that they're farming info for articles or books. The sad part is that they admitted it and offered credit - and still got chased out. No credit? No info.

Jim you didnt post them in this thread care to share? Maybe I am blind but didnt see anything in initial thread post. Did I miss a second posting in this thread from you?

What's your Top 3 songs, that no matter what, will work every time to Start the party or regenerate the energy.

I call it my 'Light the Fuse' hits.

This is not a 'depends on the crowd' type of thread.

These must be for any event, mainly receptions.

Your Best, your secret arsenal.

Mine, in no particular order:

Cupid Shuffle
Yeah
Boom Boom Pow

When I first came here I really didn't know anything. I was just starting out and had no clue. After reading a Papa Deuce thread I asked about what songs got people up and dancing and I was severely attacked. Most people would have left with that kind of welcoming, I didn't.

How do we want to treat people who come here looking for a place to learn, a place to hang out with other DJs and musical performance professionals?

The OP has obviously been participating here and I would bet he has done many gigs in his career. How about a little courtesy and the benefit of the doubt? If someone comes here and asks for a playlist on their first post, that's one thing, this thread is a whole other ball game. Play nice . . .

Wow my bad

I must have been looking prior to my first cup of coffee and having not cleaned the bifocals. Thirty lashes are surely in order. I humbly apologize. Thanks Steve for looking out. Your da man. I will go hide under a wet blanket in shame.:triwink:

Depends on the type of function as to what three songs I would play:

Wedding: "Run Around Sue" - Dion (I'm more interested in the "beat" and guest recognition of the song than the words even though I am at a Wedding).

Do You Love Me - The Contours

In The Mood - Buddy Bregman Orchestra

(after this set I usually go into a party set)

"Carolina Girls" (Beach & Shag song) - General Johnson & Chairmen of the Board

"Build Me Up Buttercup" - The Foundations

"Jailhouse Rock" - Elvis Presley

Next...I hit some of the more current music:

I Gotta Felling - Black Eyed Peas
Fire Burning - Sean Kingston
Down - Jay Sean f/ Lil Wayne

Ain't Goin' Down Till The Sun Comes Up and Calling Baton Rouge-for the country loving crowd . . . if they don't get up and shake their booties to these two then you better get the paramedics cuz they need medical attention . . .
