Are you using Wireless DMX - and if so, what are you using? Are you experiencing issues? Do you plan to modify your existing setup?

I'm thinking of moving to the Donner system however some recent discussion has me thinking. For those of you with Donners (or others), are you experiencing lots of issues? Are you going to change to a different transmitter?

Personally, I'm still deciding. I have a couple Chauvet d-Fi units .. OK, but not what I'd recommend. I bought a set of Donner units for a friend. I use them when I run his lights during his shows. They work great, but build quality is suspect. One stopped working, but removing the end cap and reseating the board fixed it.

I'm using this Donner-compatible wireless DMX transmitter and it's been very reliable. It has selectable transmit power levels 0-3. The longer the distance, the more power you need to maintain a reliable wifi connection in competition with all the cellphones in the room.

The Donner units are great. Practically zero issues with them, other than range (over 100 feet). That stronger transmitter that was mentioned in an earlier thread takes care of that problem. I have 2 different version of the Chauvet d-fi and would not recommend them. I bought 3 initially, then came back and bought another 3 that were a 2.0 version and they weren't compatible with the 1.0 version. They also fritzed out on several gigs, requiring me to change frequencies. So far, the Donners have been rock solid and they just work with my 9X18 uplights.

I wish the Donner rechargeable units were able to be recharged via something similar to phantom power on an audio XLR. That way one could have a panel with 4-12 xlr sockets connected to a power supply and then you'd just have to plug the Donner receivers into them to charge. Now you need a bunch of ac socket space for all the chargers.

Even better, why not run off the power from the device it's plugged into.
That's true of everything from BT receivers to the Alto stealth. There should be a standard for speakers and lights .. a standard USB socket or power via at least one of the XLR inputs.

I doubt you can get phantom power from an XLR connector on a light fixture!
Most 'modern' fixtures have an accessory AC plug built into the plate - put a USB or step down transformer. At least give us some options - I mean power is right there and readily available.

I still wish for USB or maybe a 12v connector on the back of every speaker, light, or controller .. would make it easy to add "accessories" like a wireless mic receiver to a speaker or the DMX we've discussed or to power a phone/tablet. My Anchor Liberty 4500, which is at lest 10+ years old, has a 12v outlet. The speaker is battery powered, so I made a little cable to go from that outlet to a AT 3000 receiver and had a completely portable speaker with a decent mic .. 6+ years ago (speaker sucks with music though :) )

Is the Donner 'long version' supposed to be for longer distance = the 'longer' receivers have antenna's on them?

NO .. just the older version. the moveable antenna might make line of sight a little easier and that might increase range. I've run the rechargeable version about 100 feet with no issue.
