I've been using the older Chauvet units for several years. Never once had an issue, and they have been flawless. I have about a dozen of them, and use many of them with my platinum packages, so I don't have to run so many cables.

I've been using the Blizzard Wicicle units for a month now, and here's what I've found: They're highly susceptible to shocks from static electricity. I managed to kill one by walking across my living room carpet and touching it. Mistake made, lesson learned. Aside from having to be extra careful with them in regards to static, they're nice little weapons to have in your arsenal.

FYI... I just finished an install at a hockey arena, and I'm using the old style Chauvet wireless units. I tested the show last night, and it worked flawlessly. I set up out in the lobby, where it's warm (where I could see through the windows), and triggered the light rig over the ice... not one problem! The units were about 150 feet apart.

Awesome Ty but while the heavy snow suit? I thought you Minnesota people could handle the hockey rink in your shorts and short-sleeve shirt? :triwink:

I used the Chauvet modules last year. I've had 2 units die and have finally given up on them.

Have to correct myself. Last night, I pulled out one bad unit and just noticed a frayed wire on the power supply. It works fine, just gotta fix the wire. I may go back to wireless as soon as I have the mydmx tricked out.

Am I reading that correctly that these things don't require an external power source? You been using them for long?

Yes, they require an external power source. It's a little 9V type power supply / wall wort or biscuit. It's not a deal killer or but it's slightly inconvenient to me. The only thing is the shape of the PSupply. If you're using them with Pucks, it would be very convenient if you could utilize the PUck's 2nd IEC input to plug the 9V power supply into BUT the shape of the unit prevents that. I'm thinking an aftermarket PSupply that's more vertically shaped would be better. Having NO DMX wires to contend with is wonderful.

so it seams the Blizzard Wicicle units are very fragile and the chauvet units are great? Thanks for all your input guys!
I've only used mine once but I wouldn't necessarily say "very fragile". That's just one guy saying he zapped his with static electricity. There's another guy up in the thread that said 2 of the Chauvet units died. I think any small wireless DMX would seem great considering the convenience factor they afford you. The Blizzard were my choice because of their very small form factor. I couldn't imagine trying to strap together a typical wireless DMX boxy-type unit with a Blizzard puck uplight. That would be kind of bulky defeating the purpose. Now the boxy and larger wireless units used with trussing and larger sized lighting would make more sense.
