The end of support for Windows 7 is rapidly approaching. The date support ends for most users is January 14, 2020, so basically one month from now. How many of you are still using Windows 7, and what is your plan? Are you going to upgrade to Windows 10?

I only have a couple of computers that run Windows 7. One of them is the laptop I'm using at this very moment as I enter this post. It's my primary laptop for my DJ business, which I also carry for as a secondary backup computer, though both my systems have backup computers. All my primary and backup computers run Windows 10 and have been for a very long time. Upgrading my laptop though is gonna be a PITA. I'm not excited about it. It runs great and does everything it needs to do.

I have it on one older laptop that I rarely use. My daily and gigging laptops are all Win 10 .. I have had very little issues with the upgrade other than a tough time turning off updating on their schedule.

I still have one running XP and one running Vista..The rest run 10. The two obsolete ones rarely if ever see the internet so I'm letting sleeping dogs lie

I have a WIN 10 backup and WIN 7 as my primary home/gig computer. I will now have to consider switching to WIN 10 for primary gigging. However, I have so much stuff that utilizes MS Word and Excel. Main reason for not converting to WIN 10...MS Word suite IS NOT FREE on WIN 10. Why do I want to rent it when I own it?!!!!
When no more support for WIN 7 what detriment will I have by still running WIN 7?
Since I have Norton on my WIN 7 computer, will it keep my Windows Live Mail safe?
Also, Internet Explorer will become obsolete shortly. Guess I will have to convert to Chrome.?
Keep in mind, I'm not a "techie-type" guy--one of those "old fart" kind of guy!

Most versions of MS Office will run on Win 10 .. including the purchased versions ...How old is your version?

I have 3 laptops running on 7. The bought the newest of the two used for $150-200. Since Win 10 isn't free anymore it may not be worth it to upgrade. Very little internet usage for either of them. Maybe I'll just get a macbook pro.

My photo sales/dj lighting/backup computer (laptop) is running 7. Can't get the photo sales software (long past support) and not worth spending $300-400 for a new copy of it.

I doubt I'm gonna do anything. It goes online to get music from teh cloud to be the same as my main unit. I used it at the last gig when the main laptop decided to reboot 15 min before the end of the night...wish VDJ would let pop up windows show up on top!

There's a windows 10? I have been running MS DOS 5.0 all these years. Runs AOL 3.0 just fine! :) I never liked those windows OS things they came out with. Made things too easy...Good ol Blue screen and slash commands for me! :)

I think I have got my money's worth out of this 56K modem. I think I might upgrade to DSL soon...

56K? Some of us managed with 1200/2400 baud ones thank you very much ...

Both giging laptops will remain Windows 7. Security Essentials has been removed from both, Avast added. Windows Explorer was disabled years ago since I run Chrome. Surfing and downloading is done on my third laptop which runs Linux Mint. I've tried playing with a Mac, but I guess I'm just an old dog who can't be retrained, I just can't get used to it. One mouse button - what the heck is that? The GUI in Linux Mint is more Windows 7 like than the Mac's OS, which is wacked since both Linux Mint and the Mac are Unix based. At this time I have zero intentions of upgrading to 10.

Old operating systems will still run, you just want keep them off the internet . I have two desktops one with XP and win 98. The XP still runs fine but the win98 had is pretty screwed up. My Laptop with Vista just died after almost 10 years faithful service. My windows 7 machine is still holding on but needs to be replaced soon. What I Like to do is just replace a machine instead of updating operating system. As prices continue drop and each go around I end up with more for less. Most of my everyday office work is now done on IPads, so my laptops end up mainly for performing. The only issue with the IPad is my business s/w is setup using Access which doesn’t run on IOS. So for now I broke out what I use into tables in excel. But I am closer to retirement and too old learn a new database program which is runs on IOS. What had happen originally was I down loaded a DJ office program which was in dbase. At the time that what I was working with at my day job where we were working with dbase. I was like wait a minutes this looks very familiar. So I programmed system for handling music and bookings/clients tailored to my needs.

Now, I am just trying figure out exact what I want vs what I afford. Likely something light and thin with two drives. Too many nice Choice are available now.

I'm assuming you mean 'Internet Explorer' (which is a Web Browser) - as it's a competitor to Chrome. 'Windows Explorer' is the default OS GUI file management tool. Also, on Mac, you can set your mouse to be two button ... you will have options, but it's not Windows.

I still have an XP and a 7, though they don't see the Internet anymore.

I have a PC with XP and a laptop with 7...
the PC at home is just for email
the lappy is my gig laptop, but it is just for dinner music and backup.

I will probably make the laptop our new email 'puter
and buy a newer laptop for gig.

OK... You DO know that E-MAIL is one of the most widely used mechanisms used by hackers to infect computers; right???... Your e-mail computer should be one of your most secure computers. Once OS security updates cease, you MUST make sure you have the VERY BEST virus protection available.

I know...
we're just not as computer-dependent as most people.
Hell, we've been doing fine with the XP machine...
even after we lost support for THAT operating system.
The only reason we're replacing it is because it is just TOO DAMN SLOW!

And since we only use it for email, and occasional browsing at home,
(no bank account numbers, no credit cards, etc)
we would simply replace it, if it were to become infected beyond repair.

I use Yahoo email which has fairly good spam detection. Can I get a virus by simply by reading an email (which with Yahoo is never really downloaded to my computer) if I NEVER download or open any attachments?

You don't have to be. If your computer is online, it is hackable. Add to it an unpatched, unmaintained, unsupported OS and it's a hackers paradise.

Unless you're reading them as txt only messages, then yes. Additionally, Yahoo shows ads - and their servers can be hacked.
