When you learn to set beatmatching with this.....it is absolutely incredible.
I set short transitions and cut to the beginnings of vocals......tight, fast and easy once you master it.

I like that I can just drop beatmatched songs on my playlist and cruise. It also transitions darn good to songs +/- 10 BPM with ease.

I'm curious about OTS, but not thrilled with the idea of converting my library to an exclusive format.

Actually all you are converting to is a container format... your MP3s are sorta just packaged into the Ots file kinda like a Zip file but with the ability to add much more information to them allowing Ots to do more with the files and make multi-genra and multi-artists tagging possible.

You can of course just import your mp3s into OtsAV and they will play just fine but you lose Ots' Beat matching abilities and BPM analysis... and again are limited to the tagging abilites of the mp3's...

If ever you want to extract your mp3's out you can using Ots Studio....

Also Ots does play karaoke files and this is where you have to have them in the Ots file format.

Another shameless OTS plug........ Sound quality. Whether I'm using it through my DN-HD2500 or the Rane MP4's, sound quality with OTS is outstanding. The only other sofware package that equals it in sound quality that I own and use is Serato.

There is also damn good sound processing built in and highly tweakable.

Wayde,

Hard drives are pretty cheap. I'm sure you have your entire library backed up on a couple of hard drives.

All you do is get another, convert them all to OTS, leave them on that drive, and use them from the external drive. Use the trial version of OTS to test and go from there. OR just take a handfull of songs and convert them and run your test from there.

My favorite feature is the directives. You get to them from a right mouse click in the song list. My most used directive is "Stop and Recue". When inserted it will load the the song following the directive but not play it. When you hold the CTRL key down and tap the space bar the song starts. I also use the pause directive when I have timed a welcome, or announcement.

That is what sold me 10 years ago. Now, after 10 years, I can also say not ONE crash due to OTS. And, during that time period, I did crash ots one time due to my stupidity with ASIO but never due to OTS.

Do you get the advantage of the sound processing without conversion ???

Yes and no.... hows that for an answer.

Ots stores information such as gain, bpm etc.. about the files... while technically it is still an mp3 this additional information only available in the container format, the ots file format.

The reason I say yes is the sound engine in Ots is outstanding as mentioned by another poster but it's the file information stored in the ots format that makes the difference.

If you are going to go with Ots you definately want to use their format to take full advantage of the built in processing.

Directives! I'm still learning the full power of OTS. Went out and tried it in my workshop. Yep, it just keeps getting better. Thanks for the tip!
