Whats The Story On This 21" Sub Woofer?

I wouldn't hesitate to run that system for a second. You worry too much! ;) Another thing you are going to find out is that those subs will be turned WAY down. It's just too damn much earth-shaking rumble to really open them up. If you even try it a little, the police will show up. Trust me on that one. Been there a few times.
 
Wes...your thoughts on how system would sound with only the one Yorkville 801? I still have not had opportunity to check out the Yorkville system.

Are you joking...hardly ever turn up the 800s? What setting do you run them? On the clock...somewhere between 2 and 3? And how about the "shaper"...what setting? Does a setting of 3 o'clock give less "surround" low end or tighter thump? I know, you're probably going to say, "what kind of event"? Well, how about a party with between 200-300 kids (school dance)?

If by powering you mean a big honkin QSC amp yes they're powered alright :D:D:D:D:D
 
Well if you check the specs they forgot to put in the sensitivity 1w/1m so it must not be very impressive, they do however put it in for their 18 inchers. But if you look at the max SPL the 21 and the 18 are the same, they both run down to the same 30-33 hz.

I see lots of hype with the idea bigger is better but the specs don't show it, yes the kids will go WOW about a 21 inch sub. The powered one need just over 16 amps apiece to run and a 20 amp circuit breaker has 16 amps at the outlet but most of outlets out there that only can deliver 15 amps through the one outlet.
 
The shape knob is for loundness versus deepness. I've never hurt for loudness, so I set mine to full-on deepness. As for volume setting, I swear to God, I don't believe I've ever been past the 12 o'clock position.

Also, I've done plenty of 200-300 parties with just one of those subs. If I've ever gone past the 12 o'clock position it MIGHT have been during one of those events.

I can't remember if we have talked about crossovers, but you need to run your system bi-amped and crossed over at around 80-100.
 
All I can say is the specs are listed, compare them for yourself and see what the difference between the 21 and the 18 are.
The 18's get as loud and go as low as the 21's.
 
Wes, your comments are appreciated. The Yorkville NX750's have a button that you press when using it with a subwoofer; press IN for 100 hz Roll Off.
 
So do you go from the sub to the tops or from the tops to the subs? I know some Yorkville speakers have a pseudo crossover moreso than a real one. What I mean is the speaker will roll off frequencies for itself, but it passes the full range signal on to the next speaker in the chain. I strongly suggest you not send the full range signal to either your tops or your subs. It's inefficient and (I believe) waists energy. Please use a REAL crossover. I would hate to see you get this close and then mess it all up by not using a $99 piece of critical equipment.

There I fixed that for ya!

Permanent install gear have some of the best specs and performance. I have always drooled over this http://www.jblpro.com/catalog/general/Product.aspx?PId=158&MId=2. I like it because it can be tri-amped. Instead of three cabinets per side, you now have an option of three in one. Thats the way I would lighten my load without compromising sound.
Now if it only came with an 18" woofer, I would be drooling even more.

Well there have been some direct posts along with some comparisons and thats ok. As an OP I don't see a problem with it. It has not really gone off the cliff (As yet). :sqwink:
