My Gear goes in and out with me. If I do leave anything because I have to be there the next day it will only be my JBL Scoops. Clubs and Bars in Houston have only Jukeboxes with extra speakers attached. They act like Venues. It is not uncommon for a regular Bar to have a 400 people capacity. The Club holds much more.
I just hope the pay is good if you can get 300 people or more in a place. We have clubs here that don't hold as many people as those bars do.

If I was doing this as a Hobby and not making money I would go chase girls instead. That is a more fulfilling Hobby! LOL

I just ask that question because i'm amazed at what some say they get paid to work in a bar. Where i live the pay for a bar DJ is about $150.00 on average for 6 hours on a Friday Saturday night.

I used to work in bars but haven't done so for a while now. I really don't care to work bars any more and not because of the pay either. When i was working in a bar i never did it for the money. Yes i wanted to get paid but for me it was about keeping myself busy and getting exspsure. I do have one bar that i do like and have played there sometimes. When the manager calls me to cover for one of the DJs and i'm available i'll go there and play.

I've had people say to me there that they should have me there on a regular bases. They already have their 2 set DJs that work there. One of them is a very good friend of mine that has refered some jobs to us. He refered this gaduation party we're doing in July to me.

I'm not crazy about working bars because some places are dead and they expect you to help the place come alive. They want you to go crazy trying to fill up the bar and don't want to pay rhe kind of money you deserve for all the hard work that it takes. The good thing with this bar is that they already have their regulars that come there and then some. So on most nights the bae stays packed with patrons when there is a DJ playing.

One can make good money doing gigs in a bar. First, we come back to basics, the average DJ tries to use Wedding gear in a Bar/Club. That won't work, serious SPL is the name of the game. Secondly once the Bar owner realizes that you are different from the average DJ and his type of gear, they are willing to pay the necessary coin.

I offer to help market/promote the Club when I am doing a Bar/Club Gig but what I am doing is actually promoting myself. I never guarantee attendance unless I am doing a production and receiving a percentage of the Bar/Door Receipts.

$150 for 6 hours work isn't going to bring in any quality talent. Maybe if you're just pushing play.

Trust me there are some really good DJs here that use some dynamite gear and work in a bar for that kind of money.

The thing about it is where I live at there are a ton of DJs. So it's not too harrd for an owner/manager to find a DJ willing to do the job. I understand there are places where they are not too many DJs and that why they can charge a bit more.

As someone else pointed out...I would price it based on the person you leave standing behind it.

I suppose if they're not bringing in their own equipment ... but just buying the song material costs money, so they're netting maybe $15-$20 an hour. I suppose if that's 40 hours a week, then it's a job, that's what a starting teacher gets, so it's not horrendous, but you're not going to get talent, you're going to get a button pusher.

What i beleive is to do the best job i can and not base how i perform based on how much the pay is. I do that because i never know who's in the crowd and will be in need of a DJ?

I know we all have bad days. That's just being human. I just t5ry my best impress a crowd so they will brag about what a wonderful job i did.
