...and who decides....

Me,,, who else?
Why does water freeze at 32 deg. F (0 deg. C) ?
Because we said so.
The temperature of everything else is arrived at by comparison.

Thus, once you decide that you are a real DJ then you inevitably place your mark on a scale for comparison by which others and yourself can be measured.

Part-time Full-time has absolutely no bearing on what is a real dj and what is not....
I guess that would actually depend on the two persons you select for comparison, eh?

I know where you're coming from, but isn't it true that a full time DJ couldn't be a full time DJ very long if he wasn't real enough?

So, query this: is a 25yr full time DJ who decides to go part time likely to be more or less real than a 25yr part timer who decides to go full time?

Holy Bat Guiana Batman! Do you suppose The Joker knows?

Do you remember that carnival game where you hit the plank with a big hammer and try make the weight rise to ring the bell?

That's how I see this thread playing out in real life.

Countless DJs return over and over to play the game, each one repeatedly ringing the bell, and pleased as peach too flex their muscles for the crowd. Until some quiet stranger steps forward and with no fanfare at all - knocks the bell clean off while leaving a 3 foot crater in the ground.

So, referring back to a previous post: once you choose a yardstick the rule is fixed and the what you thought was a benchmark might turn out to be just a bottleneck.

Well, ultimately that's what we all do - live up to our own benchmarks.

But, that's why I use the thermometer and the carnival game as a reference.

If you're not willing to hold the very same stick against the next guy - then it becomes a very unreal comparison.

Pro & Ducky,

A real entertainer is one that successfully provides the client with the brand of "entertainment" they requested. Whether it's games, music, quirky ad-libs or whatever.

Fee is never a factor in measuring potential success or failure. It's simply what you privately negotiated to do the job. A good job is a good job regardless.

The correct answer to Proformance riddle is .................................................

The Full Time DJ is the real DJ since he has reached a level of success that a Part Time DJ has not. The fact that a Full Time DJ is being more selective of the events he is booking thus resulting in lower numbers of events has nothing to do if he is a Real DJ since he has already succeeded at what the 25 year Part-Timer hasn't.

I'm following you're answer, but:
The fact that a Full Time DJ is being more selective of the events he is booking thus resulting in lower numbers of events...
I don't think I've ever met a full time DJ with fewer jobs than a part timer.

I've read about them in fairytales from the kingdom of worth - but those stories must have been written in the 50's 'cause the royalty's annual incomes are all so low.

Cesar if this is the type of posts you are here for please go blow your horn somewhere else...

Full Time/Part Time debates are useless... and are NOT a measure of a successful entertainer..... nor does it denote what is a real DJ....

Obviously, you have no idea how expensive it can be to hire a real screw up. :)

Question: Can you still call yourself a full time DJ if you're so selective that you're unemployed?
