What are your business plans for 2013?

I did go to a venue where we did a baby shower once that is a very nice place. I went there yesterday after my physical therapy. I saw the manager and tried to explain to her why I was there and how much I liked the place and the event we did there. She never really gave me the time of day. I introduced myself and she never told me who she was. I was as polite as I could be and not being pushy. She simply took my business card and I just left.
One thing I made sure of even though the weather wasn't so great, I made sure I was dressed nicely. So what I will do is just keep it moving and maybe come back to that venue again at another time.
I did get some good news for me at least. I was told last night that someone was at a function for Holloween where there was a DJ. They said that he got told from someone else that the DJ wasn't very good. He said there was not a lot of people dancing. He said the person did mention this part. He said they should have gotten me to do it. So that's great to hear. That means whatever event that person was at when I was the DJ they liked my work. I've been getting quite a bit of work that way lately.
Also that's not the first time I've heard that someone hired another DJ and was upset with that choice and wished it was me. So things aren't too bad. At least my name has gotten out there and it's not in a bad way.
Unfortunately I had another experience with the van last night. I was getting back into the van and while opening the door the panel right by the door begun to bend. So I had to force the door open to get in and that messed up part of the door I guess along with the side panel near the door.
One last little thing I found out this morning that compounded what happen to the van last night. I found out I won't be getting a check from pension until February because it wasn't officially approved until in November sometime. So other then what I should get for a final check on 1-5-13 I won't have any income coming in for January. I do have the bowling party to look forward to and possibly a sweet 16. Just got wait to see if this lady gets back to one of my partners about doing the event. It's for the 19th. So we'll see about that one.

We're looking at a few different avenues. We're going to continue and strength our partnership with the local orchard. Gear wise, we're starting the process of digitizing all of our music and getting it all organized on a hard drive. From there the nice digital turntables to utilize that hard drive might be coming. We're also looking at possible uplighting now that the leds are starting to include amber and white with the RGB. Then there's the ceremony rig and the upgrades we want to make to that system.
In all reality, we'll probably focus on the ceremony rig and do some other small upgrades that we've been wanting to do...new lighting controller, crank up lighting tripod, etc.

No new business plans, but I do plan to revamp my mobile rig. Prefer to get it all into a single rolling case with inputs and outputs made easily accessible so it's a roll-in, plug-in and make 2-3 connections and be good to go (if possible). Probably a 10u over 10u (or maybe over 12u) case with total weight under 90 pounds.
Oh and I'm trying to make it with as much "made in North America" content as possible (didn't want to exclude Canada as I have part of my family tree from there). I'm guessing the laptop will still be of Asian origin, but I think I can do speakers, mixer(s) and amps (if needed) from here .. not sure about DSPs (DriveRack, Reverb, Vocal processor, etc.), CD player(s), or DMX control. I'm gonna try.
Oh and I'm trying to make it with as much "made in North America" content as possible (didn't want to exclude Canada as I have part of my family tree from there). Reduce expenses in 2013; music, advertising, professional associations (ADJA hasn't done anything for me of late but take my dues and keep sending me emails). On the other hand the Local ADJA Chapter has been helpful in fostering networking and education; however, it has become too far to travel to monthly meetings (2.5 to 3 hrs travel time one-way). Gas was expensive last year! So it's bye-bye to Chapter dues, too.
Also, plan to reduce the number of gigs per month by virtue of charging more per gig and re-focusing on the Wedding business. Up-sell more room ambiance lighting services.
Not many years left in these old bones. One could say that "light can be seen at the end of the tunnel". The year 2012 was good to me on many fronts, but the last 60 days have been unbelievably slow. Several events on the books for 2013. I'm hopeful January will be a good month for bookings.
