OK: since y'all have copped to some really LAME stuff --- here's some CHEESE that I actually admit to liking:

"Copacabana" (Barry Manilow)

"Sweet Caroline" (Neil Diamond)

"I'm A Believer" (The Monkees)

"Build Me Up Buttercup" (The Foundations)

and -- thanks to our pal Hank, that damn "Daniel Boone" song is still playing in my head!
(maybe the next time I have a Sunday wedding reception.....).

I almost don't consider these 2 songs cheese...I play them almost all the time at weddings and the crowds usually sing along...

Dean Friedman - Ariel (and other 70s oddities like Early In The Morning)
George Baker - Little green bag & Paloma Blanca
Anything Tony Orlando
Anything Bert Keampfert
Music Box Dancer

I was just pulling out some old CDs today... found one I didn't even remember I had, and maybe many have never heard of....

The band is Shriekback, and the song is "Go Bang!"

Not lame, but not many remember or just don't know it ;)

I never saw Xanadu when it came out. But I LOVED the album (and anything ELO (remember Electric Dreams?)).

Finally, last year I got the movie and watched it. It was very cool - a refreshing look at the 'turn of the 80s'. Made me very nostalgic. :)

Hmmm - maybe we should start a favorite 80s thread...

This has sparked a debate with me and the girlfriend..... She says guys aren't allowed to like this stuff......But she does!!:sqlaugh:

Are you kidding me????? Stryper was (and still is - they have a new disc coming out in Feb '09) a great band. And ELO was always one of my favorites as a youngster, all the way from 'Roll Over Beethoven' to 'Hold On Tight'! I had every album...

And thanks to that video, my crush on Olivia Newton-John is back on again...

Some "less-than-'cool'" faves from me:

All Hall & Oates
Kenny G (great live album)
Little River Band "Reminiscing", "Lady"
Eighties Rock & Metal

Hey, LRB had a lot of OUTSTANDING tunes, man!

You know what scares me?

Probably not, but I'm gonna tell ya anyway... :D

I can tune in to the top of the top right now, and I get bland! Very few exceptions.

The cheeseyist songs of the 60s, 70s and 80s, are far better than the crap floating about today.

I'll take LRB, over the current crop, any day Dudes...

Good call Papa, I used to play this song spinning the club scene back in the day. thanks for the memories!!!

Okay not sure if he could be considered lame but certainly unusual and requires a taste for his style to be formed.

Might I say ''Leone Redbone''?

JT, Leon Redbone is one cool cat. I LOVE his style! He was retro before retro was cool.

Oh no...Zac went there!!!
Afternoon Delight happens to be one of Papa's favorite songs!

I don't know if he qualifies as lame..... but George Michael.

Freedom used to be my system test song.

Didn't we recently have a whole thread featuring Xanadu! Love that film and ELO is one of my favorite bands. Funny thing...some song came on the other day (I think it was Fantasy by Aldo Nova) and I was missing the old roller rink days.

A few years ago (ok...like 15 years) I was working at a Top 40 station in Jersey (WNNJ in Newton) and Reminiscing came up in the rotation. So I'm playing it and the PD and one of the owners happen to be in the studio, and I ask why we play such a "lame song" in a CHR format. The owner gets offended and defends the song as "a great song" and storms out, the PD then tells me that it is the owners favorite song and that is why he can't drop it. :sqeek: I'm fairly certain that is when I jumped the shark at that station. :sqembarrassed:

And yea, also used to have a huge crush on Olivia.
