What Anti-Virus Program or Suite Are You Using?

I thought this would be an interesting topic to share across the board.

In the past, I've used AVG, Norton Inernet Security Suite (that comes with all the bells and whistles), and WebRoot (it was free with my laptop purchase).

Granted, I've tried a couple of others such as Trend Micro and Kaspersky, but for the record, what I'm using now, blows everything else away. It's not a system hog like other programs I've used, and it's a COMPLETE suite that includes Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, A brick force firewall, and several other goodies.

The software is a product of Sunbelt Security Systems, and is called Vipre.

So, do tell - what are you using to protect your PC?

oh wait, are we talking about something else?

No Jon - I pay 30 bucks a year for the license. To be honest, I wouldn't want to trust anything else. But then again, I have Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes Anti Malware and Simple AdBlock pop up blocker running at all times in the background.

The Anti Virus program is absolutely the best I have ever used though. Darn well worth the money I spent on it.

AVG Pro is what I use.

ESET Smart Security 4 in 2 desktops and 2 laptops, used Norton and Panda before, but this one is da bomb!

Greg thanks for the heads up Im doing fine with what I got and spending my dime elesewhere. I will see whats up when I get to Toronto

Microsoft security essentials here as well. Been working great.

I was paying for Macafee and Norton and both of them had problems, slowing computers down and causing issues.

Macafee would say that some password add on was out of date and I needed to pay more money to update it. I kept trying to tell them I didn't want it but it kept coming back. Finally just got rid of that.

Norton blocked 2 computers from getting on the internet and it took me hours to figure out it was norton causing the problem, then I had to get a special program from norton to remove their program properly so it would stop screwing with my computers

Ditto -- on every machine I own... :)

I haven't found anything less intrusive, faster and as proactive yet. It's a set it, and forget it program -- install, scan your computer, and never have to scan again. It updates itself 3-4 times daily, and every process and file is checked before being allowed to run or communicate. All websites are checked before your browser will open the page, all email is scanned, all downloads are scanned as they are downloaded, etc.

I have mine set to interactive filtering mode, which is a little more work, but you get to see what each process is communicating with, and choose to allow or disallow what it does.

I'm using Norton and I hate it. Just can't get rid of it?

Yes, you can.

google "remove norton anti virus" and you should find the program. Get microsoft security essentials or something else.

Another problem I had with Norton was the first time the "internet suite" came out. It was offered to me when my renewal came up. My computer was working fine. It was extra and was supposed to completely protect me from the evil internet. I paid the extra, downloaded it, and BAM!, my computer crashed and would only boot in safe mode. Called Norton and they said I had a conflict with a program, so I needed to remove one program at a time, re-start and see if that solved it. after trying this about 15 times without success, i told them I wanted my money back and I went and bought a new computer and it had macafee, which turned out to not be much better.

Gosh, all these posts & not one "I run a Mac"...:tritongue:

Like Rick, I've heard/seen good things with ESET...

I fix a lot of computers for friends and non-profits. Every infected computer was running something (usually Norton or Macafee). It's all bunk! Nine out of ten times a virus or spyware is caused by a careless user.

I run my machines without anything but the firewall, Firefox and AdBlock Plus (plugin).

I run a random scan using Malware Bytes.

I humbly disagree (although I agree somewhat with the general idea)...

I get hundreds (if not thousands) of emails every week. Many of them come from customers who have a virus/trojan/worm. They don't know they have them, so it just sends itself out to everyone in their contact list.

ESET is very handy at scanning each email as it is downloaded from the server, and flagging those that contain malware. Most of them will activate just by showing in the preview window. I've been saved countless times ;)

It will also scan web pages BEFORE your browser displays them, and will not let me into pages that contain malware.

I don't have to run any scans :)
