Sorry I couldn't respond sooner.
I think you are right on Teddy.
Thanks.
It's funny. I have never campaigned so hard for a client to hire someone - and have it not be me.
But just as a point of clarification why assume that limiting the play list to Christian music (with the smattering of country and crooner music) would make the party suck? I can't think of any type of song that you can find in secular music that you can't find in Christian music.
Too many DJs gauge the success of a party by how much people dance. Further, they have trouble imagining people dancing to stuff that is outside of the mainstream.
Therefore, no dancing equals sucky party. (Note: Experienced / good DJs know that sometimes you can have a successful party without
any dancing.)
Let's say, for example, you hire a mainstream DJ and the music isn't working. If your DJ only has been playing Christian per your instructions, the DJ will think he's handcuffed, and the party sucks and it's your fault.
On the flip side, let's say you're hired a DJ that specializes in Christian music. If people aren't dancing, he'll be more likely to change to a different style of Christian music, trying to find stuff that works, than to assume that no Christian music will work.
I think you're on the right track to get a Christian DJ that understands what you want, and then just give him a short list of must play songs. But it's OK to also provide a list of "play if possible" songs.
