Want new Anti-virus

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
all I use is Spybot and CCleaner, both are free and work well

I use ESET Smart Security on all my machines.

It is un-arguably the fastest, and least resource intensive security software available.

It does not interfere with anything -- totally proactive, and never crashes. It's also not free :)


Once you get it installed, you do a scan -- you never have to do a scan again, unless you want a warm and fuzzy. It monitors everything, and will not even let you on a website where malware exists.

Best piece of software I own (other than Rockit) :)

Thanks Rick.... I was needing to renew my AVG subscription.... but, based on your review and the fact that the price is the same I'm going with ESET... thanks!

BTW, if ya want another cool piece of software, try Diskeeper. It defrags all yer drives in the background, and it very intelligent. For example, if it's doing its thing, and you move the mouse, or touch the keyboard, it slithers away silently. It remembers your working time, and doesn't interfere during that time as well. You never know it's there...

I keep both programs running on my machines, and they are fast as heck, and need no maintenance from me -- set it, and forget it. Neither interferes with audio or video playback. :)

if i could only get Rockit to do that>>> "set it and forget it" LOL.
 
ESET NOD32 is unbelievable software. Rick's definitely chosen a winner there, which I have also been running for the past year-and-a-half.
 
I have used cough

Norton - crap
AVG - average
avast - average to good
nod32 - average to good
mcafee - average

but also every program wont pickup every virus
some will pick up some sorts and others will find what ones cant see

have ran avg, avast side by side no hassles
did a test with noton and avg and all they did was complain - not good
avg even said winzip was a virus so really who do you trust - none

just dont go to them sex sites again!
 
My subscription for Norton ends Monday. My brother-in-law and a couple of other DJ's in the area are telling me to dump Norton. It's a hog. Takes up to much when you're running live. They all say to go with Avast.

I've also heard that Norton is a pain to uninstall.

One thing to note, they make two products -- Smart Security, and NOD 32, which is strictly anti-virus. The Smart Security is an all in one solution, that includes it's own exceptional firewall, and email integration, as well as the anti-virus.

I use the Smart Security, and it's caught hundreds of viruses and trojans on incoming emails (I get lots of emails). I also have the firewall set to interactive mode, where you teach it which programs you want to allow access to the internet (inbound and outbound). You get some popup screens asking you about programs in the beginning, but once you get it trained, it's smooth sailing. If any app changes for any reason, it will catch it, and again ask you if it's ok to allow it to communicate.

A very worthwhile investment if you spend any time on the internet :)

Symantec has a special uninstaller on their website (you have to look hard to find it though). It will clean up most of the mess... :)

Rick: it sure is a pain in the azz to remove norton crap

I always have thier latest uninstallers when I get a new system to remove any
of the so called addons that a company installs (dell.com) is a bad one for that

+1 on that and I'll add that Best Buy is probably the worst... for add-on crap...
 
I am going to use Voodoo on any SOB or Site that gives me a Virus! :sqlaugh:
