Weddings Venue wanting to use a mic from us...need your opinion

To quote an old adage: "Lack of preparation on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Disclaimer: If this was a venue we were friendly with and worked there often, we'd help them out with the mic set.

In this case, no. Traffic isn't contracted with the venue to provide equipment.

Other DJ companies loan this venue a wireless mic at no charge. So what? That's on them. Maybe you should call one of 'em and ask 'em to deliver the free mic set. See what they tell you. :D

It's no wonder the venue doesn't have one of their own. Why buy something when you can convince others to lend you theirs?

It's good that the bride is aware of this venue's less-than-professional practice. :)

I would call the Bride and Ask her if she needs to hire a Mic or is the Venue hiring or supplying for free a extra mic ?

be diplomatic and see what happens

then you can see what the venue is doing...

(you might come to the rescue at the last min just for the bride, not the venue)

Wow. Maybe you can offer to also loan the facility a building, some chairs, plates, waiters, and a punch bowl.

Or better yet, ask them to loan YOU those things for an event held elswhere- what do you think they'd say, hmmm? At first thought I would blow them off....

..... On the other hand, I wonder how much one could charge for a mic rental? Is it worth some bad press? I'm thinking about if the venue decides to whine to the B&G, maybe even get THEM to ask.

They would be sleazy, but I've seen it done....

I haven't read the other posts yet but I will say that it was not wrong to say no. If they had been nicer, I would have said yes as well.

I had one bride use a group of Japoanese instrumentalists play at her ceremony. They wanted to use a mic; unfortunately that also entailed a complete ceremony system. One consideration I had was the fact that my liability insurance wouldn't cover it if I was doing it for another vendor. For that reason I wasn't going to do it. Then I happen to meet one of the instrumentalists at the venue when I was doing a site visit. After we talked there was no way that I could not do it.

In the end the client was happy, the instramentalist group was happy, and, actually, I was happy as well.

I'm not too concerned about the bad press...this is a place that I'm not really interested in working at in the future. They have a preferred vendors list as it is. The bride actually booked us over a year ago at a different venue but it ended up going bankrupt...so she had to find another venue which she did.

you mean to tell me they can't BUY A WIRELESS MIC of their own
with the extra money they're charging for the ceremony?
(I would imagine ONE ceremony would pay for it)

you mean to tell me that they actually TOLD you that every other DJ let's them borrow one, (which implies that it happens all the time) but it didn't occur to them that it would be a good investment?

I'd tell them that my mic is wired into my rack (which is true for many of us)
or I'd offer to SELL them a used one of mine.

If I did have an extra one for them to borrow,
I'd give them the crappiest one I have...
and wait for them to complain about it!

but...if the BRIDE asked me...I would do it!

I have a ceremony setup available for 350.00, pay me and I will get it out, don't pay me and that is fine with me, but you can't use my stuff. I am not giving to a charity, I am in business.

Oops! Good catch, Mike! They are professional grubbers. Pass.

Around here, some venues charge $500 per hour for Overtime. I don't know what they charge for ceremony, but I would figure the same or slightly less.

Do the math? Yes, they can afford their own Mic system...

Also, it amazes me that some DJs charge $75-$125 per hour. I always thought it should be almost double of what your regular hourly would be.

But, everyone is different..
