My wife and I are doing a wedding at a venue that we haven't been to in 5 years..no big deal because the last time we were there...the staff wasn't all that friendly. I spoke with the bride a few weeks ago asking if she needed us to do her ceremony...she responded "no, the venue is doing it for us." I needed to ask because we would've had to charge her for our ceremony setup which include up to 3 mics.

Today, the venue calls and asks my wife if they could borrow a wireless mic from us for the ceremony for a guitarist. My wife mentioned to them that we would have to charge for it do to the fact that we weren't doing the ceremony. The venue person responded rudely to her saying "Well I'm NOT going to charge my client for it and the other dj's usually borrow us an extra mic."

So the way that I look at it...the venue probably charged the bride twice as much as I would have to do ceremony and now she's scrambling to make good in the bride's eyes because she doesn't have the proper equipment.

If the venue person was nicer I might have called her back and agreed to let her use the mic. I just get tired of people trying to take advantage of us...it seems like it happens more and more in this economy.
Was it wrong of us to say "no" to this request?

No. And if a way can be found to let the bride know how well prepared the facility isn't, without coming off poorly, I might do that, too.

I'd call the bride and let her know that the venue is attempting to book my services for her ceremony. After all, I have to pack up the mic, deliver it, probably set it up and sound check and again offer her my services to do her ceremony as I DO have ALL the equipment.

I am sure if you put it to the bride in the right way you wont look bad because you are providing her with additional service. Plus all my grear is labeled, so I think she might notice it was my Mic anyway and wonder. Better she not think I was underhanded and went around her to the venue and know the truth.

It was okay to say no....

You didn't ask but I would have asked what they were going to plug it into. If they have a system I would have nicely asked why they didn't already have one.

Then I would have asked if their sound system is included in their ceremony package. If she said yes, I would ask her if they told the B&G that it came with a wireless mic, if she said no, I would say then they don't really need one.

They have an outdoor setup that they wanted me to plug my mic into.
Their sound system is included in the package...that's why it amazes me they didn't have an extra handheld wireless...if you charge someone for it...you should have it. She mentioned to my wife that other DJ's let her use their mics for free.

No mine is mounted in my system case. I can surely have you contact NLFX Pro and see if they can help you with your own. Having one on hand in situations like this makes one look professional in the eyes of a client and fellow vendor.
