I am looking into investing on some 11 LEDs to do small up-lighting for weddings since I am getting many calls for it. Nothing major, I just want to keep it small for right now. At the moment I subcontract a lighting compnay which has worked out for now.

I am looking at 10 of these lights

RGBLED 46

RGBLED46 – DMX PAR46 LED RGB Fixture is the most economical of our DMX LED PAR range ideal for use for production or club truss warming. Its features include: dimming, static color selection with dimming, luminous flux, sound activated, and strobe effect. To insure long life the LED’s of the fixture has an incorporated protective acrylic lens.

• LED’s Type: High Output 5MM
• LED’s Total: 225 Total R:75, G:75, B:75
• Control Signal: DMX512
• DMX Channels: 5 Total (switchable)
• Beam Angle: 30 degree
• Power supply: AC110V 60Hz
• Input Frequency: 47Hz-63Hz
• Power Consumption: 18W
• Anti-electricity intensity: 1.5KV
• Resistance >2Mohm
• Size: 23"D x 22"D x 22"W
• Weight: 3.3 lbs.

One of these:

DMX PAR56 RGB LED Fixture is our basic PAR56 LED model. It features include: DMX control, dimming, internal chase programs, and single or master/slave mode operation.

• LED’s: 196 Total R:85, G:51, B:60

• Power Consumption: 21W
• Beam Angle: 21 degrees
• Size: 8"W x 8.5"H x 5.25"D
• Weight: 3lbs.

I also am getting a DMX controller with one transmitter and two receivers.
Also, I am getting the power cables for the lights and DMX cables for the units.

I will have to rent out this package 5 times to get my money back.

I am investing about $1,700 for the whole setup. any suggestions or what else will be needed?

BTW.....these lights have dip switches on the back they are not digital.

I would go with the PAR 56 can I started with some small cans, and still use them in small venues with low ceilings or on columns or small item. But now have bought the Chauvet LEDrain56 can and they work much better for tall rooms.

I only setup my lights at a job I'm at, so no problem with theft, yet.

A couple of pictures using the Par 56 cans.

Mi hermano I hope Kevin Nichols helps you out too because he always has an awesome light set up too

What do you charge for uplighting?

The going rate around here seems to be $20-25/can for the Par 56 cans.

My basic lighting package if they choose uplighting includes 6 of the Par 56 cans or 12-15 of the little E-76 cans. This is with static color, if the want them color fade and linked, it will vary by the venue.

Mike what controller and cables are you using? DMX and transmitters? How about getting power to each one? How long do you take to set these up if you are alone?

So far all of the uplighting setups have been static color, so no controller is needed, I set the color with dip switches. If I cannot get a good color match I have a Chauvet Obey 10 that I can carry around light to light and plug in the light set the color and un plug the DMX the light will retain the color setting.

Also so far there has been an outlet close to each light, or I ran a small extension cord. Also the LEDRain series can have a power out that can be linked dozens of lights. The last night in the large building I setup 18 cans, and had to run 2 extension cords to the glass wall and tape them down a few places. It probably took no more than 30 minutes to setup all the lights. Now if they needed to be linked for master/slave or DMX I would say triple that due to running all the cables and taping them down. I will at least double the cost to do that. I will also most likely buy a wireless DMX system if I ever need to do this. Which is something I have been thinking about buying anyway for some remote lighting, like lights around the door for a grand entrance.

My charge was 300$ for 6 pars.

For 1700$ you can easy buy 11 Rains 56's. Their market price is ~100$
Also I would get a small netbook ~ 300$
The DMX dongle ~ 70$
Add to that package a few cables and some kind of software software (many of them are free) and you are set!

You will thank me later!

Thanks for your reply, I might go that route and use a pc to control the lights instead of the controller.

DMX or linked my price would be just a little lower, $240 for 6 cans, maybe a little less if they were setup as close as yours were in the post. I also thought about the laptop route, but the controller was a cheaper route to go.

I assume you are refering to the LEDRain 56's.... this is good and information I was hopeing for.... I didn't know and Ben wasn't sure if you could set a color using DMX and be able to remove the controller and cable after setting the color and have it remain.

If I understand your post correctly they do.

Tried it the other day, and they did hold the color. Haven't tried it with the Eliminator cans though, will try that tomorrow night. So far I have been able to get close enough with the dip switches.
