Transferring music laptop to laptop

Art,
I have a question for you. See your above statement in red. How can you mirror a 1TB HD with a 100GB HD? Am I missing something here?

Canute...I think I can do this because I have less than 100GB of music on each of the "E\music" external Hard Drives. Each drive has less than 50 GB of music at this point.

OK That explains it!

You didn't ask me, I know.

That said, you're obviously not going to copy more-than-100gb from the TB drive to the smaller drive. In my own case, I have a 50 gig library. THAT could be copied to a smaller drive. (I know, being Mr. Obvious here). I would also recommend using "robocopy". It will copy only the updated files from the source to the destination.

RR...thanks for recommeing "robocopy" and that's probaby what I may use...after I research the product. I am trusting the OLD laptop to continue operating once I offload a bunch of "crap" (garbage) that I don't need on it, i.e. photo's and obsolete Outlook Express emails that have been accumulating since 2004.

Ultimately, I hope to free up at least 20-30 gigs on the 100 GB internal HD. I may then use the internal laptop HD for "Best of" artists so I can sometimes just play off the Laptop. But then I run into the path issues in my DJ software program (OTS) where it has two paths; C:\my music and E:\music.

Sometimes it's a vicious circle, like the cat chasing its tail!

I thought you already have software for this. Why not just use Microsoft Sync Toy. It works great and is free. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15155
