...........

Do I travel with a 30' tractor trailer loaded with full on back-up gazebo, alter, 80-person chair and place-setting rental and a spare pair of shorts for the groom? Of course not. Nobody does.......

Speak for yourself! Of course I can fit most of it in the Saturn, AND bring spare bridal garters as well.. Then again, the wear and tear on the shocks was the reason I stopped accepting weddings....:sqlaugh::sqerr:

Beemer,
What area are you from?

Ducky,
Who did you end up hiring?

Just curious on both questions.

Hello Ron:

I am in the "middle of nowhere".......Gardner, Massachusetts.

Best,

Paul

3) I am moderately priced...I'm not your bottom feeder, nor am I the guy who charges the most..because I can.
not sure about the meaning here.

does this mean you believe you can charge the most and be successful, but choose not to?

I too, am moderately priced. I believe it allows me to stay busy, get lots of referels, and bring in the most revenue. However, If i thought that i could bring in more overall revenue by raising prices, i would.

We hired a DJ from Danvers. I'm not going to specify who on this website. If he uses this site and would like to say "Hi, I'm DJing Ducky's wedding," then that's fine with us. :)

you mean you are not going to give us this guy's website and his contact info so we can harass him? that's no fun.

She knows I'd send him the DuckZilla video I'm making... :sqwink: :sqlaugh:

We gotta get J Mac drunk, so he'll send me some weird pics I can use... :D

In my area, you could be the best at what you do...however there will always be a price shopper. I am not saying price shoppers are wrong, because I am a price shopper. I could charge more, and I could work less. But personally I rather have my name on some of these events in which brings me more business.

When I first came on this site..."Charge more/Work Less" seemed practical in every which way. However in my market that's just not the case. I have noticed that charging more, did get me less events, but unfortunately less people were able to see me perform.

Maybe after I am more recognized my approach will change, but for now that approach is not applicable for me.

So I say I am moderately priced because currently I am probably ranked at the #2/#3 spot for the price of my events. But in the same regards I would rank my business at #2/#3 in my area as well. I am definitely not #1...as more events need to be done satisfactorily, and my reputation needs to build as well. I feel good where my business is now, however, of course as everyone else..you still want your business to grow.

Also...I feel the same as you....I'd rather stay busy say three times a month with guaranteed income, rather than trying to book two events in a higher price bracket. If my area supported a demand for higher expectations from djs, I would have a leg to stand on. However, most people...yes they want a good dj, but at the same time, they compromise too many times for a cheaper dj, even though the quality of the event is diminished. I give my events it my all, and I will do whatever it takes to give my clients the event I promise. There are three dj services that I feel are actually for the client...and the other 6 are for themselves, and they just hope the clients have fun at their event. I guess everyones miles will vary...but this is my perception. I am kinda startin to ramble..so lets stop here...lol!

Sorry to be so harse here but Ducky I wouldnt have you as a Client

I know it sounds mean but after reading all of the requirements I cant see one that is worth having you as a client

sorry but its the truth more of a bridezilla 200 times over

I can pick and choose what I do these days especially after 30years of the same crap that every bride I see wants - so really its the Dj that also should be asking why should I have you as a Client than what can the Dj bring to the table thats different

have a nice day

oh PS
hope the wedding goes well...

Did you set up appts & MEET these DJs in person? It's important to get a feeling if they are a good match.

Or are you basing hiring a DJ on their telephone salesman skills?

My answer was always along this line:

"What sets me apart from most of the other DJ's? I love doing it, period. Because of that, I think I can do a better job than most since I wasn't hired by somebody else to come and fill up a time slot and collect the money. If I am not having fun providing production for your event, then I wouldn't be doing it. "

SIDE NOTE: Eventually it came to the point that I wasn't having fun with the formal events anymore, so I quit doing it. After I quit, for the next 2 years I had people coming to me wanting me to do their event because they had experienced my work at somebody elses in the past. 800 to 1000 a night is hard to turn down, but if your not loving what your doing, how can you do a good job for the customer?!

cclark thats how I was many years go
once its in ya blood, it never goes away

Your right, it never goes away, but I only do live sound production now, I still get to play with the equipment (much more of it, and lots louder) but I don't have to do the entertaining!

Yea, I love a good zombie thread.
Hey Ducky, now that it's all said and done (congrats by the way), are ya willing to spill who you hired? (To be honest, as I think about it, I really don't care...just thought it would make for an interesting post)

BTW where is Ducky and J Mac? Havent seen them in a while?

They got married -- We all know how that turns out (JMac can never speak for himself again, and Ducky's planning his honey-do list)... :sqerr: :sqeek: :sqlaugh:
