The Rodeo Song

So if you were hired by an white supremist who requested that you play hate music and death to other races at an event that could be attended by people of other races would you say YES to that? Who gives you that right to say NO?

I understand what you are saying Madness but why would you take an event that you are not comfortable with thier choices of music.

Think of it like this if you went to buy a car and you wanted a stereo and air conditioning and they told you you can't have it because they don't feel comfortable with it what would you do?

Funny...back in the late 80s, I would play the Rodeo Song and the I-95 Song without a second thought...at weddings. But then again...I was working for The Pros back then.

Madness, you have read my posts, I am sure. I do not take gigs with explicit language. My clients know that up front. However, if I take the money, then I HAVE TO play the song. IMO, it is just that simple.

If this gets presented to me after I take a deposit - and it hasn't really, yet - I'll do whatever I can to take it off of my being responsible. But I will play it.

As much as I want to play "clean", I know when to admit defeat for a day. Fight the good fight again on another day.

I never said I was uncomfortable with the gig or the people I am working for. I think sometimes people do not think about the ramifications of the music they are playing. I am not trying to play Music god or dictate the type of music that gets played. I play many events that are not my personal taste in music and have no problems.

I just thought there may be a good clean version out there that would be acceptable. Just like Culo by pitbull the wording was changed and it was not bad.

I actually am not being hired by the person retiring I am being hired by the Elks lodge, and the information is being passed along to me by them, also I have never met or spoken to the retiree.

Nope. I have a 45 with Chris LeDoux on the glued on label... unless THAT is not real.

BUSTED! Papa's been caught downloading 45's again. Most people take the easy way out and download mp3's. But not him.

This is why you qualify someone BEFORE you take the event. In your example, if you take a gig from a white supremacist,,, hell ya you better know what you are getting into.

Asking questions, letting people tell you about their event BEFORE a contract is signed is sooooo important.

We do NOT have to take every event that comes our way.

But if you take it, you should at least play by some of their rules...

If you are a club jock and play the un-edited versions at the club and you take a school dance, you think you can play the same songs?????

I just do not like playing music with alot of swearing in it where there are going to be children there no matter who is paying me. Now if I was in a bar I could give a rats arse. But you must admit that someone out of the 400 in attendance will be offended and that could also cost me business. I just did not know if there was an edited version of the song.

So if you were hired by an who requested that you play hate music and death to other races at an event that could be attended by people of other races would you say YES to that? Who gives you that right to say NO?

Just posing that question with your logic. There are going to be young children at this event and I am always nervous about this and the image that it portrays.

You know, this originally started out as a simple question thread wanting to know if anyone knew where to get a clean version of the song in question - and somewhere along the way, it got hijacked into a DO PLAY or DON'T PLAY thread......

Let's stay on topic to help answer the original poster's question folks.....

And if there is a clean version of that song, I've never heard it, and I worked in country and bluegrass radio for years......I have the song in my collection and it's the Gary Lee version.

Greg, I think you get too upset about staying on topic all the time... I think Madness knows all his options by now...

Personally, I almost never mind my threads getting derailed after the obvious, helpful answers have been stated.

Guess Jenny found the thread about the hot chick, eh Greg :sqwink: :sqlaugh:

Like I said before, I have the edited version. It just blanks out the adult words. It sucks to listen to.

Don't even remember where I got it.

?????

everything I know of Chris Ledoux is that he NEVER produced anything with that song on any record label. Have you listened to the song? heck he has a ton of different rodeo songs, but not the one with the specific lyrics mentioned here, I'll make it simple, if you have a 45, with his name and the song title The Rodeo Song, and u listen to it and it has the lyrics mentioned here , I'll offer ya 100 bucks for it, and I'll pay shipping!!!

Lyrics:

Well it's 40 below and I don't give a ****
Got a heater in my truck and I'm off to the rodeo
And it's allemande left, allemande right
Come on ya ****in' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage ya god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ya ****in' jerk get on my nerves

Well here comes Johnny with his pecker in his hand
He's a one ball man and he's off to the rodeo
And it's allemande left, allemande right
Come on ya ****in' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ya ****in' jerk get on my nerves

Well it's 40 below and I ain't got a truck
And I don't give a **** cause I'm off to the rodeo
And it's allemande left, allemande right
Come on ya ****in' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage ya god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ya ****in' jerk get on my nerves

Well here comes Johnny with his pecker in his hand
He's a one ball man and he's off to the rodeo
And it's allemande left, allemande right
Come on ya ****in' dummy get your right step right
Get off the stage ya god damn goof ya know

Piss me off ****in' jerk get on my nerves
