Hi, I'm Will - I live in Boulder, Colorado.

I'm not in the DJ business, but more of a consumer - I love nightclubs - love dancing, love the music, but I really go crazy for the lightshow. I love how much has changed in lighting in just the past 5 years! I found this forum while researching DMX controllers (software) and I registered to join membership in order to provide some feedback to someone wondering about the capabilities of the Chauvet Obey 40, which I had some experience with (hopefully it helped!). This forum has been a huge help so far - thanks to the community of members! :)

I have the following gear which I plan to setup in my hotel room at the 2015 Denver Starfest Scifi/Fantacy/Comic/Horror convention that I've been attending for, oh, about 100 years now. Other than that - I'll have the best light show for house parties. ;)

  • Two American DJ Galaxian Gem Green and Red Laser with Built-In Dual Gem Effect Light
  • One ADJ Products ECO BAR UV DMX High Output DMX Controlled Black Light Bar
  • Chauvet Lighting Hurricane 1101 Fog Machine
  • Chauvet Obey 40DMX-512 Universal LED Light Controller [Failed after about 10 days of very light use - looking for alternate solution]

Here's a link to a Vine video of everything rolling in my condo's living area (oops, almost everything - this was taken before I got the Eco Bar UV):

Thanks for all the expert advice!

Will

I'm JD. I started on two mismatched turntables in high school when Chicago house music was really taking hold. I grew up in awe of the DJs of the HotMix 5 on WBMX and learned from them, eventually entering radio as the midday air personality for a popular dance station called Energy 88.7 (WLUW Chicago). Rising in the ranks, I eventually became program director and heavily involved with the advancement of dance music. Meanwhile, I started doing weddings and corporate events on the weekends (Jam-Night Productions, now ChicagoPremiereDJs). I was also writing and reporting for Dance Music Authority magazine, working radio and nightclub promotions at SOS and Baby-O Records, and spinning at many of Chicago's big nightclubs. In 1997, I became the music director and air personality for Cyber Radio 92.7, the first radio station to stream on the Internet. I also helped start Chicago's popular dance radio station, Energy 92.7&5, in 2001, and also worked as an air personality at Milwaukee's 103.7 Kiss-FM in 2003. I founded JamTraxx Media in 1998, a broadcast media company that launched RadioMixes in 2003 (syndicated radio mixshows in several different formats) and partnered with Dick Clark's United Stations Radio Network in New York. I left JamTraxx Media in 2013 to work full-time in weddings and event production. I am currently the CEO of the Ultra Events Production Group in Chicago, and a radio broadcast consultant. I am also the current vice president of the Chicagoland Chapter of the American Disc Jockey Association, a musician, youth minister, husband and father.

Did I scare JamminDownJD away or was it ITTigger? I suppose if you have all those credentials, our little forum is not exciting enough (LOL).

Haha, ye, I was quite busy this past week. I run mics and sound for a student production of the stations of the cross every Holy Week. I am also quite active at my church, where I direct altar servers at all Masses and services for the entire week, swing a thurible, and organize a bus outing to six other churches on the night of Holy Thursday. I sort of overworked myself-- I am now sick! Happy Easter to all those who celebrate today.

I lurk about these forums, and whenever I can make a contribution I try. I hope that most people find me a friendly and helpful guy. Or at least I bring some entertainment value. Lol

That's cool... just glad I didn't frighten you (LOL).

Edit: Oh... and I hope you get to feelin' better. I know all about that overworkin' stuff; you know, being a domestic slave and all (LOL).

Welcome aboard Kevin.

Do you have replacement mirrors for Martin T Rex? If so, how much? Is it one piece? Are they glued in?

Well I guess it's my turn....

I'm Jeff I was born in a really small town called Inverness Nova Scotia I lived there with my Grandparents until until I was 13. They passed on and I moved with my parents (reluctantly on both parts) in Sydney Nova Scotia.

It was very shortly after that that my Aunt's boyfriend (now husband) needed some help carrying gear so I started travelling with him on Saturday nights. I fell in love with the DJ business. In November of 1983 i played my first gig solo....a wedding. somehow there was a mistake and two were booked for that night and he needed a DJ. I had to be driven there and taken home I was too young to have a drivers licence lol

After a couple of years and alot of DJ gigs he got out of the business (although he did get back in to Karaoke in the late 80s/ early 90s and I worked for him again) so at that time I thought it was over. later that year I was really missing it so I made a phone call to the top dog in town. His name was Terrance (Terry R) Robertson. I introduced myself and he said "your that kid that plays weddings I heard good things about you" I started travelling with him that weekend and doing gigs for him shortly after. Terrance became my mentor and one of my best friends in the world

In 1989 I went on my own. I bought my gear from Terrance and he acted as an agent which filled in the dates I wasn't booked. I've been at it ever since

I've gone through several other jobs along the way from owning taxis to retail to bouncing and several others the DJ business has been very kind to me over the years.

In 2006 I went Multi-op and in 2008 I took over my mentors business when he passed on so I went from a single op with old gear to a multi with too much gear real quick lol

I've been a member here since almost the beginning and a moderator since 2008

I live in Sydney with my wife and 6 girls and since 2010 I have worked as an on air personality with Cape Breton Radio (Max98.3 FM,Cape.jpg Family.jpg GLR Firehall.jpg The Cape 94.9FM and CJCB 1270 AM)

When you meet the prospects, just go a little Mel Gibson as in the first Lethal Weapon, That should keep them in check, although your daughters may be a little bit upset :D :D :D :D

Naw it's more like this

I'm Adrien. Got into the Mobile DJ Business a little while ago. Looked like a promising investment and something fun to do. So far, my business partner and I have done a few small gigs but hope to expand to more gigs throughout the summer. The username was derived from our business name. And if you want a little bit of history as to where our business name came from, here's a quick schpeal: It took us a few months to really start asking ourselves what business name would fit us and the business itself. I do like the lighting aspect of DJing the most, so one day I remembered that light can be measured in Lumens. This didn't seem to fit, so further thinking brought me to remember that light can also be measured in Lux. This seemed to fit much better so we started scratching out a logo. The profile picture is what it came to be. We planned for the triangular images on the logo to look like sorts of light beams. So basically, that's where our name and logo came from. We are based in Tucson, AZ. I joined this forum to further my knowledge on DJing and see what other DJ's use, do, and implement in their systems. In addition, I find reading about this kind of stuff very interesting. Here's our website: http://www.luxentertainmentaz.com/index.html . If anyone has recommendations, I am more than happy to listen and take the advice.
