Cool thing today... A lady called me for a SUNDAY MORNING party in September. 11 AM.... but here is what is cool. She told me that she gave her son the choice of Chuck E. Cheese, Miniature Golf, or a Bubble Party and he wanted the Bubble Party! He saw me a few weeks ago at a camp I did.
 
So If I were you I'd go out and rent a Rat suit and think of a game using those plastic golf putters.:sqbiggrin:

I bought some expensive bubbles, as I needed some in a hurry... called Gajillion Bubbles ( 64 oz. ) , or something like that.... they are nowhere near as good as the 100 ounce bottle you get from Wally World for $2.50, which is about 1/3 the price of the Gajillion Bubbles.... Avoid them if you can... at all costs.
 
I went out bubble shopping today. I had a few snowball bookings come in from my recent Big Bubble Dance Jams. I'm thinking next year is going to be crazy for these parties.

Anyway I found 2-64 ounce bottles at KMart for $2.99 each. I then hit a Walgreen's in the area. Bingo, I found 3-100 ounce bottles for (get this) $1.50 a bottle. Walgreen's has all their summer stuff for 1/2 price.

I had bought some bubbles at The Christmas Tree Shop. I was using them last week and they were clogging up the wands. The bubble juice was so thick that it just clogged. I poured a little water in the machine and that seemed to clear it up.

So, I have a 2 hour show on Tuesday and a 1 hour show on Wednesday. A Church picnic in a few weeks and another BBDJ in October. I should have enough bubbles for now but next year I plan on wiping out Walgreen's.
 
I'm thinking about not using a microphone for these events. The kids are all close to me anyway, and even though I use a wireless headset mic, I think I might like not hearing any mic noise if I bump the mic while performing, which I frequently do.

Any thoughts?
 
I had to do one without my headset once and while I have a booming voice, it still wasn't enough to reel in thirty 3 year olds chasing bubbles when I wanted to do a dance, so out came the wired mic...that was a nightmare with the kids all around me, but I got through it.

The mute switch on the body pack is my friend, I never touch the fader.

The Mic gives you that DJ sound and look the kids love. If you want to command them the Mic will do it. I talk to them at times when the musics playing so I need the Mic. When we do dances I instruct them and without a Mic they just might not hear me well enough.

But that's me. If you're comfortable without one then leave it off. Just make sure you have proper technique when using it. If you want I'm going on the road with my Bubble Mic MC workshop. Let me explain. It was 2 hours for this one school. The first hour was for the younger kids and the second hour for the older kids. So essentially it was two 1 hour parties in the same location. I played for the same school last week and this week.

2 weeks in a row? How did that happen? I have a few in September that are the same places I played at in early summer or late spring, but nothing that close together.
 
This school is one of the only in the area who take in kids on state aid. The state pays them for entertainment. Because it was toward the end of the year they wanted to have some fun for the kids. When the head teacher saw my add and knew who I was she wanted to run two shows for the kids. Since the state of MA is paying for it I guess I just payed myself.

As I was leaving today she also wanted me back for the family spagehtti supper they hold next month. And to think Mark Ferrell doen't think I take my job seriously. Sorry, I just listen to his latest BS on DJA radio. He can put that garbage up, cut us down, but you have no place to rebutt his BS.

In a note: Check you local state for grants. I know here in MA you can apply for grant money which will allow you to supply your show to certain groups. There's a bit of work to write it up and know your target groups but they'll pay more than your standard fee.
 
Interesting happening today. I got a request to visit a cahin of daycare centers to do multiple parties in 2009. But the people who I am meeting with have never seen or heard of me until a few days ago. Seems that the mom of a child whose party I had done mentioned me at her son's new daycare center....

That would be nice to get... no real details yet.
 
What, if anything, are you bubble guys doing with your business at this time?

I'm creating a new postcard. Also, I created a little 10% off coupon for 2009 parties booked before the end of the year. I'm stapling them to my remaining postcards for 2008 and putting them in grocery stores.

I was thinking of offering an indoor party jam program. Same thing only without bubbles. "Have a beach party in February" or "50's sock hop theme". This would give the kids something to do during the cold months and a chance to dress up and have fun. I just need to get off my @$$ and send out some cards.

Ah...nothing. Cleaning the machines? Buying a third machine.

I do plan on a new website and new postcard, all to be done before the end of the year.

There is a recent conversation about marketing and such on the bubbleparties forum.

I think I am done with that site. I can network all I want here for free, and I don't get ANY referrals from that site.
