Let me think back through the Alzheimers for a moment -- oh yes, back when I used vinyl, 8-tracks and cassettes. Somebody asked for a song, and I didn't have it.

OMG, what did I do... Asked them for their next choice (and probably didn't play that either)... :)


Entertainers are not immediate gratification specialists. Tell them to buy an iPod if they want to listen to that crap... ;)

Rick this ain't the 1920's anymore..... we now have this thing called the internet.... you can find all kinds of neat things including music downloads. It's pretty keen you should check it out some time.... :tritongue:

Sorry dude, but after many decades in this business, I couldn't care less what they want to request. I have a show to do, and I'm getting paid to play what I think is right, not what some kid thinks is cool to impress some chick... ;)

I don't get hired to play requests -- they can rent a jukebox for that.

You've already conquered the important step of playing for a crowd successfully, switching to digital is only a matter of getting used to it ;)

I find I use the word comfortable though. Not sure where I got that, but it seems apt. Once you have your comfort level (trust I guess), it just becomes soo much easier :)
 
Using computers for years. My comfort level on computers far exceeds the comfort level I had when using CD's. Not having to worry about scratched cd's, doors jamming, lasers going bad.

I too use my back up computer for the internet at weddings. I just want to minimize the risk of something going wrong.

When I do need a song, the back up computer can easily grab it.
 
congrats on the switch i made that move 2 years ago and not looking back...i use a denon hc4500 controller and virtual dj paired up with a denon bu4500 cd tray..and to honest i have only used it twice. i am thinking of removing it from the rack..
 
All digital since I rentered the DJ business a few years ago. I use software and a midi controller and a ipod as a backup. I have only had one crash in over 3 years when my harddrive power cord was yanked out by some kid.

I have to agree with Rick, some of this off the wall stuff will kill a dance floor, and when drinking people come near my setup, "you know the ones with shaky drinksstanding near laptops" I get real nervous and tell em to move way back !!!!!
 
I was afraid the first night I went completely digital too - which has been in the past 2 years - maybe even the past year. I ALWAYS have some 'essential' CD's on site with me. I also have a fully redundant machine and library on site with me - I'm hopefully prepared for most scenarios.

=)

Since I have gone digital - I still 'play' with my CD's but my main performer is the machine.
 
With me being a computer tech - it's not a question of if it will break down - it's a question of when will it break down.

Absolutely agree. We are paid to perform in a professional capacity and use our best judgement to keep the floor moving and to keep the show exciting.

Some 'DJ's' (I use that term very loosely, pertaining to the 'amateurs' trying to make a buck and that don't care about the show, the people or possible leads) really couldn't care less.

Those of us professionals really are trying to do the very best we can to accomodate everyone but to keep the show fun. A request is just that - it's a request. It's at my professional discretion to play it.
