I've got a list of a few groups that a B&G gave me and I'm vaguely familiar with the following band's music, but was hoping for some input on particular songs that you think may work for either cocktail or rockin' at the reception. I figured I'd ask some of you who are a whole lot more acquainted with these recording artists than I am, before I torture myself with listening to a bunch of music that may make me slit my throat!

I've got music by all of these artists, but off the top of my head can't think of anything that comes to mind that I'd want to use... :triconfused:

Breaking Benjamin
Avenged Sevenfold
Finger Eleven
Three Days Grace
Evanescence
Nirvana (Isn't this Patrick's favorite band? ):dontknow:  :sqwink:

Gracias....

Paralyzer by Finger Eleven is a standard for me at a "rock" show (you can see I played it at this past weekend's party).

I personally would never work with anyone who wanted to hear Nirvana :)

They've got "Change The World" on their list and I believe that's on the same disc.

I feel the same about Dave Matthews!

I was just jacking you around about Nerdvana, I know that they are not your favorite group!

Any thoughts on the other groups?

I'm not familiar with many of them, but I know with Nirvana, be very careful about lyrics seeing as their stuff was released before the explicit warnings were widespread.

Yeah, I told Tyler (the groom) that we'd work some of his stuff "later" (esp. the harder edged stuff) in the evening after Gramma and Grampa have left!

I was figuring that some of you younger folks could steer me in the right direction on particular songs before I dive into the CDs and Prime Cuts tracks listening to these artists....

Thanks....

Thanks Cam, much appreciated. I told him that we'd try to work in a song by each artist but I was not going to make any iron-clad promises and find out that none of the material was appropriate.

They way I look at it I feel a lot of groups have at least one tolerable song........:tritongue:

Listening to the Evanescence disc Fallen from 2003.....

I believe that I'll try to sneak in "My Immortal" by Evanescence into cocktail, dinner or maybe as a slow song.

My Immortal is the only one I know of that might work. It's not what I would call party music.

I figure if I could sneak it inbetween a couple of peppier of numbers I'd be able to say I got one in.... :D

Breaking Benjamin...Diary Of Jane, So Cold
Avenged Sevenfold......Scream
Finger Eleven..........Paralyzer
Three Days Grace.....Just Like You, Never too Late
Evanescence.......Bring Me To Life
Nirvana....(i'd play something like) Lake Of Fire
Gracias....

See my suggestions in Red..:)

I'm famaliar with all of those groups - although all are great groups they are not your typical dance/club music. They are more like lets go down to the local head banger club and "stand" on the dance floor with drink in hand and bang head to music!!! I also find with that type of music most people prefer to see a live band do this type of music as oppose to dance/club music being played by a DJ - most people hearing Michael Jackson will dance to a DJ playing Billie Jean but if you throw on Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold, the rockers will like it but the dance floor will clear out. So my choice would be if the B&G want some of this music played, I would throw a few in during dinner.

Wouldn't do the my immortal thing for a slow song...It's about Amy Lee's (lead singer) best friend dying. With this being said I had a similar wedding like this about 2 months ago...lots of hard stuff. Work some of the tunes in during cocktail and dinner so you don't have to worry about it when it comes time to dance. Good luck! :)

Yeah, but the rest of the album really sucks. Basically the same thing over and over. Don't even know why I own it... :dontknow:

I plan to find songs that I can sneak into cocktail/dinner as you mentioned. Because so far, I haven't really found anything by any of the listed groups that would do well for a mixed crowd that wants to dance.

I agree with what Abbey mentioned about the clearing of the floor, but I'm also trying to walk that thin line and please the client without pi$$ing off all their guests..... :D

Thanks
