I advise sticking with the Mackie Boards, I have 5 of them , 1 of which ( my 1402 is my main karaoke board and i've been using it for almost 10 years!!! ) .....I regularly clean it and I LOVE it, none of my other boards even come close!!!! have an 8 channel, and 2 16 channel versions of the same board , along with a Mackie 32 x 8 version with meters that is my all time favorite for live sound, I also have the allen and heath gl 32 channel but i rarely use that, my mackie is the way to go. I also have Soundcraft, Peavey, and behringer 14 channel boards and they're just paperweights. Long story short IMHO stick with the Mackie they have never let me down, even had one last a night after having a beer spilled in it by a drunk!

My old Mackie is still ticking along, but I had a Peavey 701 that lasted well over 25 years, I have other Peavey boards that are still working fine as well, The absolute worst board I have ever had the misfortune of purchasing was an A&H, that piece of junk spent more time in transport for repairs than it did on all jobs combined, second mess I got myself into was the Yamaha O1V worked fine until the warranty ran out then became a major headache!

My first Tascam just passed 5 years without issues so I would say so far it looks like that is going to be a stable platform!

Mackie owner here and love it!

I ordered a Behringer 1832fx for my karaoke board. I am having great luck with my B word gear. A year of pounding the hell out it and it still sounds great. I stand by it until it proves me wrong.

My still current biggest complaint is all the current mixers available have the connections on the top vs the back.

I'm really hoping something comes available I need to upgrade my mixer.

I like the Allen and Heath ZED 12.

The Tascam 164 has everything on the back but unfortunatly due to dumb design it does not have xlr outputs.

I run a Mackie 1202-VLZ3. I bought it in 1996, it took a while to get used to not having sliders but the sealed rotary controls work very smooth and let's it take up less room.

I could never use sliders I fade in and out every song from karaoke to background music. Karaoke up, music down. Music Up karaoke down. Knobs just wouldn't work for me.

Cam,

I am not busting your butt here, but if the mixer 1/4" plugs are TRS then they are balanced just like XLR and you would simply (use or make) a TRS to XLR cable and you would still have exactly the same thing. On the other hand if they are unbalanced outs "TS" making a short jump from the mixer to the BBE (from which you will once again be balanced) is not likely to hurt the sound in the least, Really the only thing that balanced truly does for you is eliminate noise in longer runs and then it may require that the ground pin be lifted on one end!

However if you want a new board with the connections on the back or bottom there are several to choose from!
