I saw your FB post. Thanks for sharing an actual piece that's pertinent to what the average event DJ is doing. I'm curious, do you know how strong each scanner is? If the entire unit is using 100 watts, that'd put each head in the 20-25 watt range, correct? I have some Chauvet scan led 200s that are 18-watts and 300s that are 60-watt fixtures. Big difference between the two. Still, if you can get 4, 20-watt beams and at $350 price point, that's some serious bang for the buck. I might have to add one of these to my acrobats.

The best I can tell is each scanner has a 12 watt RGBW led (manufactired by Cree...I looked them up and they appear to be one of the leaders in the led industry).

I'm guessing those 12s would work just fine for most events that I'm doing (weddings). I used 4 scanners, most of last year, until Jon talked me into the acrobats. My 200s were noticeably less bright than the 300s but you're right, they should be plenty to punch out 50-75 feet. Wish I'd known about these last week as I've got a mitzvah this weekend and am planning to take the scanners to do a searchlight entrance. Let me ask you, how is the scan speed on stand-alone mode? Seems my scan leds don't have a medium speed. They're either painfully slow or headache-inducing fast. I have to use a controller to create reasonable-speed sweep patterns. Also, how is the coverage? Is it a wide pattern or do they concentrate more towards the center?

Within the menu (digital display with 4 buttons on the back) you can change the speed for sound active settings; the values are 0-100. I know ours were moving at 75 and they were zipping pretty good. Of course in a bridal show, we had to crank the sensitivity because our music was kept pretty low. It's a fairly wide pattern, I would say big enough to cover an average sized dance floor.

That's good to hear. The chauvets don't have a speed control, nor do they allow the sweep area to be adjusted. They go pretty much 180 degrees horizontal and probably 120 degrees vertically.
