So, I am working on NYE... and it is an unusual barter.

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
I read a lot of Posts and find them very interesting and I get many ideas, however when I read a post that either frowns on what a DJ is doing I say to myself, Some of these people have another job, and have to follow the owners rules, this DJ bussiness is their own business and they should be able to do whatever they want, there are no rules except for common courtesy, legal behavior etc. If someone wants to barter, give a discount, work for nothing, etc. it is their privilage as the owners of their business to do so.

I read this whole thread. At first I was in Shane's original camp. As I saw things unfold there is only one thing I can say. Damn you're good!

Great job Chuck. These folks could end up being your only clients but I wouldn't argue with that. I deal with contractors from India almost every day and they are great and honorable people. You'll do very well with them.

hmmmm why would this drive me nuts? It actually makes me proud that you are accepting cash for gigs instead of food or nothing but the hopes of getting good word of mouth refferals.

I would love to see the pics too even if it is of nothing.

Congrats and Happy Holidays!

I have no idea why, but here ya go:

The place was so small, and the event was last minute.... but like I said, a netbook, only HALF of my Passport.... the amp is under the table, and a mix2. No mics. See that CD rack on the left? It is actually sitting on a high chair supplied by the restaurant as they didn't want me to use a 2nd table.

Also, this was before the party of 22 came in.... they were as far away from me as they could be.

And I did straighten up the table... but not until a few minutes after I took this picture. After I cleaned up the table, I forgot to take another picture.

LOL, I was in such a hurry to get there, that I forgot my stand for my netbook. To keep it cool, I actually put it on a serving dish so air could circulate under it.

Why only half of the Passport? Unless you had configured your Soundcard to give a Mono output you were loosing part of the music. Music is mastered in Stereo for a reason. :triwink:

Because they didn't want me taking up any more room than I was. I had the other half with me, and they asked me to put it in the closet. Plus the Indian CDs she gave me went through my mix2 - in mono.

Papa thats a side room to the whole restaurant right? I think I remember you saying that.

No, that is the whole restaurant.

that will be perfect for that room Papa. Will you make much money in that place since its pretty small and likely less than 80 people?

Well, Canute, to be honest, for less money I would rather have a Bose Compact. And as soon as someone buys my QSC PLX3402, I'll be getting a compact.

Well that would be good too. I just hate to see these one speaker/mono acts, especially in smaller spaces.

Probably not DJing there again after NYE. They don't want to pay me enough to keep coming.

KA-CHING!

it's not what ya know, but who ya know!

(well, sometimes...)

nice find, Papa!

I hope these folks have calculated how much revenue per table they need to make a profit. It's a very nice place that appears to be newly remodeled. I like the decor and I like Indian food(I like all food), but with so few tables and such a small amount of square footage they need to keep those tables full all the time just to make rent. Lets hope for their sake that they do well . . .

I think it's a good trade, but I don't see an Indian restaurant being all that exciting of a place to spend my NYE. I hope I'm wrong.

Have fun!

.

Me either, but it is close, and I like the barter. I know you are right.
