This is the cool thing I like about networking with you guys. I had no clue who this guy Steve Earle was until I read this thread. You learn something new everyday. Thanks Jeff. I will add some of his stuff to my collection via itunes.

Try Copperhead Road and Guitar Town first if you like them then go from there. He has done better stuff than either one of those albums but they are the most popular
I think but if for the personal issues, Earle would have been a huge star...a la Garth Brooks if not bigger.....
Earle would have been big there's no doubt if it was based on talent alone but the personal demons combined with his political views really kept him from higher ground. That's the nature of the beast when you have a self destruct complex. At one point he skipped a meeting with MCA execs where he was supposed to be signing a multi million dollar deal to go score some Heroin
The next time you think about what rock bottom is like think of this when Earle got out of jail he had to hustle for sponsorship to buy false teeth so he could record again

All I can say is if you ever get the chance to see him perform live go it's worth whatever you pay
