Mini PCs anyone?

You can plug YOUR OWN trusted USB devices into your computer… as long as you aren’t plugging them into other people’s computers. Computer viruses are passed very easily by USB devices. I could very easily make this analogy to promiscuous sexual behavior, but it would probably go over your head!😂😂

Basically you should never stick anything in that's not yours ;)

BTW The first 8 or 9 years I was using a computer to DJ I was using a full size PC I only stopped because I hated carrying the 19" CRT up flights of stairs. If the minis were good and flat screens were affordable when I switched to laptop I probably would have went that route

So what do you do when someone who is to perform at an event you're the DJ and they hand you a flash drive with the stuff they are performing?

At an event I am the Disc Jockey
Sound as if you are just at the event so as to be sound reinforcement & let people use your equipment. You come up with some crazy stuff.

If you’re waiting until you get to an event to get the music being performed, then you have much bigger problems than I thought! All that should be arranged in advance, so you have time to do a secure copy of the music, and test it to make sure it’s gonna play correctly!🤪 Do you ever PLAN anything?😂

I have people who have a flash drive and I put the flash drive into one of the USB ports I have on my laptops. I have never had a issue with doing this. No virus or anything else happening to my laptops. If that's what you're referring to.

Might be why you have so many laptop problems...

Just so you know I know you won't listen there are files I can make look like an MP3 that will wipe your drive in about 10 seconds once clicked you can't stop it even if you know what is happening and I'm not that skilled. Someone with knowledge that takes a dislike for you could screw you completely

I'm puzzled as to why you would write this in the first person? :sqeek:
In the U.S. malicious USB drives are a felony. Intentional use earns up to 10 years in prison, negligent use up to 5 years.

At worse, we might encounter a virus or malware the USB owner is not even aware of. That is why we use a second computer exclusively for playing content supplied by others. The need to be rejecting people's USB provided content at private or organized events just isn't there unless you're literally working on a public street corner.

Quality of the tracks, or incompatible file types is a far greater issue than malicious software. DJ software often has limited or preferred file types for best operation. Again, that makes a 2nd PC that has a universal player and conversion utilities a big part of being able to quickly accommodate last minute content without serious risk of playback errors or PC issues..
