Show Me Your Laptop Set Up

Mine is on my homepage of my website. Though the Blue Lappy is retired as my second backup.

I know that you said you had seen mine but it made a couple of changes in the last year or so.

This was it on its maiden voyage.

Since then, I changed to a CM3-USB mixer and added a shelf to raise my Shure receiver.
(Please excuse the photo. It was taken at last Saturday's wedding but its the only one I have of the shelf)

And I know you ask about Laptops but I thought you might like to see the monitor that I put on the front.
(Yes, this was taken before I taped down the cords and yes, that is a B52 Matrix1000 hidden under the drapes)

Ok -

As promised. The following pictures are reprinted with permission from the owner, Mr Ron Auger....AKA "Cuddles"...;)

I'm doing the same thing, but using a solid piece of wood...heh heh, I said "wood"...vs the plastic peg board, which no one seems to carry anymore.

Cheers,

Joe

I have the Odyssey Case with the slider top and its a bit too far over the top Im going to delete that unit and create something different in the next little bit to gain better access to controls. I like Rons setup but would tie up the wires/cables if I were to use it as such.

Jon,

Thanks for your feedback on the Odyssey case - I wondered if the placement would make the user stretch/reach for the laptop they're using.

As for Ron's setup, I wonder if he has a cable wrap for the cables. Ron?

Like I said, I did the same thing to my case, but b/c my laptop has the USB ports on the left-side, the cables, ride down, along the side of the case & aren't as noticeable IMHO.

Great pics everyone!

Equipment is still the same the only thing different now is we use an ASUS powerful MOFO for video now lol. And yes it's heavy but with the lid off I can pick it up myself. I had it built to be a back up to my back up. Each CD deck will have an MP3 CD in during and event one of the events special music and one of some great open dance music just in case I have to use it. In 4 year I only used it once. This last new years eve I pulled the USB cable out from my computer to my hardrive. The song faded quickly but since I had a song cued up.

I was able to push play and raise the volume (Less than 5 seconds) (Thank you God) as the song played I got everything hooked back up again and faded out the CD player, no one knew the difference. We Run OTS DJ on our 2 gig rigs and love it. Learning curve is high but stability is even higher. And nope Laptop does not stay in the rig. The last photo is the oldest the one next to it is our front room with our new facade setup. Ignore the time stamp we where just lazy and did not set it up right lol. I personally love the slider when all things are set and running during an event I just draw the laptop to me. We like to call it MISSION CONTROL. The photo from the front is 2 weeks ago.

Thanks for sharing everyone. It's nice to see all these in one thread.

I will be devising my plan of attack and post here once I've got it together. I might have some questions of rationale along the way.

Don't let that stop anyone else who would like to include theirs too, the more the merrier!

I personally love OTSAV brother but if your going to run just MP3's then the easiest and least expensive route and easiest to learn if your used to using CD's is probably Virtual DJ. I believe it's 199.00 and you can put it on all your DJ Rigs. I own it but never use it. I had problems with it at 2 events and it kinda spooked me good. That was a couple of years ago though. And I'm quite sure there are a few VDJ guys here who could give you the 411.

One other thing I just thought of as I look at the pic's of Ron's console.

As you see his placement, the bar is placed over the one handle. On my case, I moved the clamps further towards the back of the case, because I would be needing that handle every time I move the case - Ron's case primarily sits on the roller cart, if I'm remembering correctly.

Cheers,

Joe

Joe,
I was thinking about using a cable wrap but I realized that the only people who either notice or care are other DJ's, well the thought cleared rather quickly.:sqwink:

+1 for VDJ

Of course there is also Rockit which might suit you well too.... just depends on what you want to do and your style.

Keith: Either way you go I can help ya out and what not just call on me and I'll be there for you.... (hey that sounds like a good song... I should write it)

You might reconsider having the phone with you at gigs.... It might be a bit of a distraction.....:sqwink:

Rob,

I'm already using Rockit so that's covered. I'm just trying to figure out if I want a dual laptop system or laptop/Denon type configuration.

Nextgen Dave,

What size table do you use?

Thanks!

I knew that... what I ment was I'd help ya in the conversion of your library...

On the Denon thing... are you looking for it to control Rockit or as a backup to Rockit in leu of a second laptop for backup?

One thing I want is a controller.... I want to have the ability to mix manually like folks are doing with their standard mixing gear.

Personally I think since the cost of the better Dennon units is about the same as a second laptop I'd go the laptop route.... it could be a backup and a light controller should you go that route. IMHO

lols!!!! hahahaha... i'd figured having a dial-a-song service in my shows prolly! ;)
