Setup/Tear down Time

Randy, looks great! Do you have a shot of how you've secured the Acrobat to the top of that totem?

I take about 45 minutes to set up and about 30 to break down my normal system as shown in the photo. Since every venue is different with regards to loading in & out, those times vary. I normally arrive 1 1/2 hours before the show starts. That gives me time to load in, set up, have the music on 1/2 hour before start time and change. I don't like to rush. Pack up can take longer if I am dragging my a$$ as sometimes I do at the end of the night.

you set up in that corner cause head table was in the center Steve? I always ran atleast the right speaker to the other wall and around the room over to the Piano to balance of the room. (I know that room as I played it many times for Steve and also many of my own gigs there at Swanee)

Headphone Speakers facing two different directions????????????

Randy, but what did you clamp the O-clamp onto?

Jon, I have been setting up there this way for a about three years now after trying a lot of different configurations; this set-up works BEST. With the speakers this way, there is no echo chamber effect since the speakers are pointing waaaaaay down the long side wing and not at the wall directly across. Setting them up in front of the window or columns, creates that terrible slap-back echo, you know how brutal it is there. Plus being on the side allows me to keep all the gear out of the head table shots; no speakers in the photos, bride's love it! It's just win / win all around my friend. :) I mainly only use the right speaker during cocktails / dinner and it is turned down low, sometimes I'll use the other one too. I can do that because I patch into the house system which carries the sound down both wings of this enormous U shaped floor. The floor is a couple hundred feet long with a 90 degree turn on each end. Oh yeah and the ceiling over where I am set-up is 60 feet high which helps add to the echo chamber effect.

Our setup, similar to the original post, we allow 2 hours min setup. That allows for a nice slower paced load-in and setup, but when against the clock, we can do 30 minutes. Tear down, never really timed it, but I'd guess between 30 minutes and an hour.

Thanks for the post...I was looking to ask similar. It takes me anywhere from 30 - 60 minutes to setup, sound/DMX prog check, and about 30 to 40 to tear down. I have another 10 - 15 to change leaving about 45 minutes of "contingency" time. Its just me and no help.

I recently invested in XLR/IEC combo cables in order to reduce time and bulk.

Steve I asked cause I knew Canute aka Houston would make comment about your speakers staggered as such but he didnt know about the house system run in the cielings. I used to hate the slap back and why I usually ran speakers 3 and 4 part way down the corridor like aisles.

From the first time it happened, y'all should have told/shown the Venue/Client as to what would be the outcome. However, precedent has been set so its too late now to change. Carry on!

Canute you dont get it I never followed their plans until they did install the ceiling speakers and then would hook in for full run coverage. Prior to that my setup was ran as I saw fit and no one told me otherwise. Steve did it as he did his way also. We didnt bend for the venue at all ever.

No problem. I read what you said. I hope he was running in Mono when he pointed one speaker down the Hall! ;)

Depends on the event...size matters....and all sizes approximate.

15k - 25k sqft, 8 tops + 8 subs, 1 person, 6 hours in & 3 hours out (~8 cart loads)
8k - 15k sqft, 6 tops + 6 subs, 1 person, 4 hours in & 2 hours out (~6 cart loads)
5k - 8k sqft, 4 tops + 4 subs, 1 person, 2 hours in & 90 minutes out (~3 cart loads)
<5k sqft, 2 tops + 2 subs, 1 person, 1 hour in & 45 minutes out (~2 cart loads)

Anytime i have to point the speakers in different directions, the mono button is engaged. I would never purchase a DJ mixer that didn't have a mono button. I run a mono feed to the house 70 volt system as well.

When I point the speakers down the long corridor, they are both pointed the same say and cranked up for dancing, house PA is off at that point for all but announcements.

Depending on the gear used it can be 20 minutes to an hour. Usually less then an hour with the help of going to a controller with powered speakers. Make for less time to setup.

Very good my friend, I have no personal quarrel with you. However, you know me and my obsession with speaker placement, so nobody gets a pass, LOL! So bite me!
