Weddings Seriously.....I am reconsidering using some sort of banner. Talk to me!

I'm breathing just fine and the air at these heights is sweeter than candy!
A MobileBeat convention is an odd and oddly appropriate environment for such silliness.
But don't you see, this is exactly what I am talking about... You are right, it works for me because of where I live and it would not work for you for where you live.
All I am saying is that there can not be blanket statements covering more subjects.... I have heard DJs at conventions on boards and chats that say a Tuxedo is what you have to wear at weddings.....
My point is, No you don't and I am living proof.
It also used to bug me when people said that you can not be a full time single system mobile DJ and survive... yes you can, and again, here I am as proof.
I just think that anyone in any business should be able to run that business as they see fit. However they choose. If they are willing to accept the consequences of their choices.
I know a DJ in CA for years it was his choice to wear pink high top converse shoes at all his events... he was the highest paid DJ in his area and a heck of a showman.... did everyone want to hire a guy wear pink tennies? NO,, but it didn't matter to him,,,, He was working more than most of us in the area....
It doesn't matter,,,, if someone wants to use a banner at their events, do it. If it works for them great.

Have I ever worn a loud flower printed shirt (aka Hawaiian shirt) to a wedding? Sure. Many times. We have some themed weddings.
Have I worn a raw silk button up shirt and raw silk pants to a wedding? Sure. Again, a casual, beach themed wedding where they didn't want Hawaiian shirts.
Do I wear a tuxedo? You betcha. I spent a small fortune on a FITTED Jones NY Tuxedo for a reason.
Have I worn a nice suit? Sure have. I have a number of suits I wear to weddings - WHEN APPROPRIATE.
The point is, not all weddings are the same. But even at a casual wedding I can't imagine putting up any signage. That's me. I find the idea of doing it gaudy and unprofessional. Others don't think so.
Signage at a public event - bring it on. You are playing in a public event, and using signage, be it logo's on the karaoke screens, a vinyl banner at the booth (behind it or in front of it) and the like wouldn't be out of place (in most cases).
But at the same time, subtlety is a lost art to most. Which means that when it comes to signage they 'go big or go home'.

:sqerr:And I have DJd naked at a gig before because everyone else there was also naked! Did you think I wanted to be so conspicuous? I have also done Naked Weddings but did not have a banner hanging out!

If banners are ok, why doesn't the caterer put one up? Or the wedding planner? or the photographer? (ok, some do, but it's fairly rare around here) or the tuxedo shop? or the bridal salon? or the make up artist?

This is what I just had made. Cost me $20 for 2 of them. I will post pictures tomorrow to show how it looks with the facade and stuff in front of it. Simple but affective. And if I happen to want to use my laptop say at Starbucks it's like a moving billboard.

I used your post because it was the last one I read on the subject. Mine was a funny ( or at least I thought so ) directed at the debate in general.
However, your post 1) Stated that I had a position to defend, and 2) I failed at it. Since I didn't have a position, I couldn't have failed to defend one.
Therefore, your reply didn't make sense. But hey, stay grumpy. I have no right to complain -I've been pretty good at it myself lately :sqembarrassed:
