See, this is why I bought the Bose....

Well, that's the nice thing about the L1. As a line array, it's designed to project well, even when obstacles are in the road. That's the advantage of multiple drivers in an array.

The aesthetics are what shine at weddings and black tie events. Yup, you've got a nice sound, great vocal tone and no mic feedback honks. But the most noticeable aspect of the L1 is what isn't noticeable. The L1 radiators can blend in with the background. The B1 boxes can be hid under a skirted table. :)

Oh goodness:sqembarrassed:

I think someone hacked into Wolfie's login. This does not sound like my Carver FOH loving buddy.:sqwink:

Wolfie please tell me you did not drink the Kool Aid..

Just kidding gang. Back to the Bose ego stroking session.

Ah no. Brother John, you may rest assured that our 6KW FOH will be loaded for years to come, lol. :D

We've been in some venues where the L1 would have worked fine. Darned system cut back to near nothing. Standing behind the rack stack I can hear people talking at a table 20 feet away. But we've got a fine tone. It works and that's what matters.

And when we've got to thump 'em for a Booty Call, it's right there. Ease that slider up and the rafters rock. That bass resonates through the whole building. There's a lot of power at our fingertips.

I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

What kind of subs are you running with the rig Wolf? 18"s?
Yup, pair of single 18" trapezoid cabinets. We only load one if it's a wedding or old folks show. If it's a show for younger people or outdoors we'll load both. :)

I am not a fan of Dr. Bose, however I can see the value of a line array.....the pic above is my home system with Nearfield Acoustics arrays.

I am a big-iron amps, nice JBL speakers kind of guy with the DJ side.....however this thread has made me at the bare minimum want to check out the Bose system. An open mind presents many opportunities....if I like the L1/sub setup a set may find it's way home with me. Damn,......there goes MORE money....

Best,

Paul

My annual Ukrainian New Years party was over the top and I handed out tons of cards. Old and young made comments about the incredible sound upgrade. The venue manager absolutely raved on about the compact setup and clean sound. She also mentioned having a guy in awhile back with just one L1 and how she was so shocked it sounded to her like there were multiple speakers throughout the room. I explained it to her and also mentioned I had used it in previous efforts. She said well yours is a step above that and the guests raved about it tonite.

she doesn't know a darn thing. my model 2's can kick your dynacord's A**. the name Dynacord sounds like a new fangled jump rope. And just because your guests really like the sound and the look, that doesnt make it good. I know, i've been told so:sqwink:

Here on the West Coast, the JBL professional line of speakers has the same reputation as Bose.

I've never had anyone ask about "Bose" speakers.......in 20 years of business!

And, I've got more money in the bank! (A good JBL system with sub will only cost $2000 or less....)

Carry on with the thread......not everyone is satisfied with 55-10,000 hz Frequency response......

On the west coast, the typical consumer hears the name JBL and thinks "top of the line" sound system? Interesting. How are they getting their name in front of the consumer out there? Not so much out here. I used JBL's. they are a fine product, but never got the customer response i get with the bose.

No one ever asked me about bose until i got it. Now they talk about it a lot...even the minority that don't like them....which all happen to be djs. Every consumer comment has been extremely positive.

I dont want to play the "mine is bigger than yours" when it comes to bank accounts. If you are happy with your equipment, that's all that really matters.

the only frequency response i care about is how frequently my customers respond favorably to the equipment. The customer surveys i do after the event shows that people clearly see the L1's as state of the art, upscale, and unique....something they didn't see with the jbls and mackies i used previously. The JBLs and Mackies sounded great...but the consumer response was not where it is now. They saw the equipment as "fine"

I said "I hope so, because I paid $5000 for them".

Her response? "Are they Bose?" :sqcool::sqcool::sqcool:

Again, not debating the actual merits of Bose sound, but you can't deny the marketability. And that is why I bought them. So, I guess I am getting what I paid for.

"With great power comes great responsibilty."

I've had several stories of "ringing ears" from both staff and guests passed on to me about the Bose system. Remember that half of "loud and clear" is "loud".

Bad sound systems are not as prevalent as bad operators.

By the way, you could have made the same point about your own sound even before you dropped the 5K.
Do you really want your speakers to be the deciding factor when it comes hiring you?

Hank - Absolutely not. I want my incredible talent and stunning good looks to be the deciding factor! :sqwink: However, if it comes down to a choice between me and another DJ, and it is the Bose name that tips the scale in my favor, then so be it...

In our industry perception is reality, and if the general public perceives the L1 to be of a higher standard, then I'm happy to let them live within their reality. I'll reap the benefits of Bose's marketing and name-recognition with a smile on my face.

In the meantime, I will also continue to increase my talent and value through education and practice, and work to get even better to look at! Why not be a triple-threat on the entertainment scene???

It doesn't matter to me WHY they hire me, as long as they hire me... assuming, of course, that I want them to hire me.

This is so true. 'Tis better to be asked to turn it up. If you're not asked to turn it up, presume that it's loud enough already. :)

Amp dissipation ratings are impressive to DJs but the majority of receptions we've done could've been managed with a couple of 100 watt amps and pair of quality, full range speaker systems. Vocal tone reproduction is critical at weddings because the mic(s) will be used often.
