You had mentioned that you were unsure if both programs could run at the same time, so I chose to find out.

And yes, next time I will use the jukebox function when the situation requires 2 sound systems - one of the reasons I bought RockIt.

today i was looking at DJ-200 a bit closer,i need a request.is it possible to have the left side a mirror image of the right, just the section under the automix from jog knob on the left all the way across.in 100 its a mirror image.i know you probably wanted to have 200 looking a bit different from the 100,but if you have the time to arrange it for me or show me how its done.100 has both jog knobs on the outside i want to place them on the inside in 200 and have the album cover art on the outside,if you know what i mean, thanks in advance Rick.

So I'm taking another look at Rockit. What is you favorite skin and why?

I just installed the demo and I chose the Dark Wood first because I don't like real dark or black screens/backgrounds. I also like that there is a lot of controls and functions available on the main screen. I don't mind right clicking to get more function menus, but I don't like where there are very few functions available on the main screen and you have to go looking for everything.

One feature that is REALLY important to me is to be able to put it on autopilot and let the program mix from one song to the next so I can go talk to people I need to talk to, eat, go to the bathroom etc. This is something I am going to really look closely at to see how Rockit does. If it works really well I might even buy the program since I haven't been able to find another program that I really, really like that I can afford.

The skins come down to a matter of preference Wiz...

Since I designed most of them, they tend to reflect how I have always DJ'ed (and still do when I test). So basically, more a reflection on me, then what Rockit can do.

I'm sorta surprised at the fact that not many have developed their own skins (other than Hank, and a few others). It's really very simple to do, and even before I put out the skinning reference last week, the skin mappers were heavily commented...

I guess in a way, I sort of consider that a complement -- look at VDJ, they have thousands of skins, built by thousands of users (bedroom DJs). Rockit is also used by thousands of users -- apparently, they are too busy making money outside the bedroom, to make skins... ;) :)

Quite frankly though, I wish more people would write skins, external programs, etc. -- that's what Rockit is designed for. I just wrote a remote control app, that I'm in process of porting to the iPhone/iPod Touch. Anybody can do that -- I put the communications protocol specs in the manual.

Don't think of Rockit as a program -- it is an API (Application Programming Interface), that any user can modify easily :)

totally understand that Rick, but as you said the ones like me who are so called busy when it comes down to experimenting and doing some stuff tend to leave some things behind based on time limit.

it took me 3 days just to add the red/yellow/green peak to the dj-200 skin.

Wiz it is easy enough to set auto mix and adjust the mix time to slam or soft fade or any other way you like. It works for me on occasion when auto is needed. Mind you I dont use it often as Im constantly changing songs at a moments notice wasting time setting up a songlist is not a workable plan and waste of my time. I do use it however on the odd occasion and it blends rather nicely.

I prefer to go in with a playlist that I have given a lot of thought to and which the bride and groom have made some "must play" and "would like to hear" selections. Then I can make modifications, add songs, change the order etc. without going in with nothing prepared. That scares me. I'm not to the point where I know lots and lots of songs that I can find quickly and just cue up at a moment's notice. As I use my new music collection and get more and more familiar with it it will get easier.

For parties other than weddings or for when I do my singing show I use playlists for filler music when I'm taking a break from singing, going to the bathroom, socializing with guests, talking to the host or hostess etc.

I respect your position at this point and so when you are around 75 you will likely feel as comfortable as us old dogs who feel 75 sometimes. I just finished shy of one hit to complete the cycle. Two singles a double and a triple. If only I had the wheels I once did I would have had two homers a triple and a single. oh well we won 22-12. I made a nice couple plays at third and only came out of it with a swollen hamstring. Good luck Wiz you will be happy with Rockit if you read and or ask questions of Rick. Its a brilliant program and I too like the wood grained skin but use the extra ODJT skin as it works for most of my apps until I get my second sound card figured out.

Ok, I have just finished up my testing of the last of the DJ programs I was interested in and can honestly say that with four things being considered I have come back to the Rockit program. Now it is my understanding that a new version has been released by Rick.

I considered these things in my consideration and in this order.

1. Function. (how easy the program was to use, how it handled different tagged song files and it's search functions) Hands down in this category Rockit won it handled every possible naming scam I threw at it!

2. Reliability. In use Rockit had absolutely NO glitches, this was not the case with the other 4programs I tested (I am computer illiterate and want a progam that will function without having to trouble shoot everytime I turn around)

3. Price. Yes this is important to me! Rockit was not the cheapest program I tested but by far it wasn't the most expensive.

4. Support. Well what can I say look at this thread!

Rick,Here I come!!!!

Steve

What ones did you test and would you be willing to review them for us?

I don't think I want to mention the other programs or review them, mainly because there are those that use them without the problems I had. And as I said I am computer illiterate and one of the big factors in chosing Rockit was based on the simplicity of Rockit and Rick's support here on ODJT.

Rick I can't tell if my purchase went through or not and I have have done it twice something called Swag keeps screwing me up and jumbling the information I type in.

Yupper - went through on this end @ 2pm + 42 seconds :)

You should receive 2 emails, one from the merchant, one from us with your reg info.

OMG -- I just realized this means I have to support you too (Yer not like my Son are ya? He wants to live here forever)... :sqerr: :sqlaugh:  :sqwink:

Rick,

I am almost old enough to be your daddy LOL!

As for support I am not really the needy type if a program works then I don't need or ask for much. However if my other DJ's like this program as I do then I may be asking you for a special deal on multiple system purchases

LOL OK Rick

I have my first problem,

I downloaded the lastest download and activated it, then tried to put my songs into the library.

I get a message pop that says there is a sharing violation! The system hangs at this point and has to be shut down.

What am I doing wrong?

LOL OK Rick

What am I doing wrong?

You bought my software...? :sqlaugh:

Sharing violation is a Windows message -- it means something else has a file open and locked, that you are trying to access.

Since Rockit 4.2, will automatically pull in your 4.1 library, there is no need to reload it. Either way, something has a file lock going -- maybe you have two copies of Rockit running, or another program has one of the files open.

Reboot yer machine if unsure, as all files will be closed.

I think I needed to dump 4.1 before opening 4.2 I did that and it is working now.

didnt have to dump it,i have a version of 4.1,4.2 on a laptop and they work fine.i was told by the Rickman to see if i liked 4.2 and get familiar with it before i remove 4.1,so i still have both on my laptop.
