Problem #1 When I start Show Xpress (newest version 6.27), it says No Universe Found, even though the Xpress 512 is plugged in and lights are plugged into it.

Problem #2 When I go into Control Panel > Device Manager > Unknown Device it does not recognize the hardware, and also says no drivers are found (even though it used to recognize my Xpress 100). I have tried A) manually loading the drivers on the 6.72B version (Driver version 1.04)

AND B) manually loading the drivers found on another disk 6.24 (Driver version 1.03)

AND C) Allowed the computer to search the web for the drivers automatically. With each scenario, I get the following error:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encoutered an error while attempting to install it.

D512 Interface 64 Bits (version 1.03)

Driver is not intended for this platform."

Yes, I am running Windows 7, 64-Bit version, and this is making me NUTS!!!!!!!

I just did a complete deletion of everything ShowXpress, including all fixture files and the small show i had created. Did a clean install: Same issues.

I am ready to return both the 100 and the 512 and find a dimmer board with 400 sliders. WAAAAAY too many issues with this software.

I do NOT want to sell it I just want the product to work without a #@*&&%!!! PhD in DMX control.

The Chauvet forums are worthless. "Support" has the same answer for everything: "Use the current drivers." Then, he closes the thread. I get an image of him being the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. In reading ANY post on the chauvet forums, "Support" reacts to every problem as though their customers are stupid.

SOLVED. Not a hardware, but a software glitch: I had to delete, entirely, driver version 1.03. Software should always seek the newest drivers, right? Even when you manually change the driver, right?

Even when I manually changed the driver to 1.04, it always said 1.03 is the latest / best driver for the hardware. This is, IMHO, a defect in the digital signature, probably a date code within it. When I removed every file of Driver 1.03, it had NO CHOICE but to load and use 1.04, even though the OS obviously considers 1.03 superior to 1.04. But the 1.03 was hiding in several locations (program files and drivers), once they were deleted, everything was fine.

Again, problem solved.

Cool! Are you familuar with using the program. I'd be more than happy to assist you with it. I use mine all the time, and have the "x-box" and the "pro" version. PM me if you need to.

I would sure appreciate some help! Is there a simple lightshow you could export / email me, perhaps with a song to "show off?" Right now I am trying to get it to fade between steps, and how to regulate that fade time.

There's a whole lot more to it than exporting a show. I need protocols of your fixtures to begin with. How many fixtures, where you are placing them and what you want to accomplish, for starters.

Have you seen my night club video? It took me several hours to program. Exporting a show to you is out of the realm of practicality. You need to learn the basics of DMX first to pull it off.

Watch what took me about 3 hours to set up... keep in mind that I have about 20 different shows just at this location (you can do unlimited shows with this program) that I run... and about 4 of them on this video. Best bet is to sit down and chat back and forth with your program active, so I can walk you through things. You'll need about two hours to START, and many more to get a show running.

Well, THAT was impressive! And it was done with this same software? So far, I am delighted to group all my fixtures and call for the same color on every one of them with a single click. I have no intelligent lights. Right now I have 12 HTL Par 64 LED's, two 4Bar TRI's, an ADJ H2O effect, a line dancer, 1 VUE III, and 2 pin spots for a 20" mirror ball.

I was controlling this with a 12-channel DMX board (a Chauvet Obey 70, I think), running to an 8-channel optical splitter, and I have DMX terminators at the end of the 4 tripods.

I can't get too wild: I strictly do volunteer work for youth/ young adult dances at my church. I seriously doubt I'll ever own a hazer or a strobe (although most of mine can strobe).

Nice Video Mr. Blue! I too plan on going full DMX software control with Showexpress. As soon as I acquire a couple of moving heads and scanners i will take that leap. I may also need some help along the way.

No problem! I've aways been a proponent of teaching DJs the art of controlling with DMX. I have a book that handles hardware controllers, and have thought about doing a book or video for ShowXpress, but when I offered that on another site, not a single person was interested, so I dumped the idea. I'd be happy to talk you through it, but as I mentioned above, you'd need to set aside a couple of hours, and have everything ready to program when we talk.

As I've always said, "learn the basics of DMX first". I equate it to doing math on a calculator, without knowing how to add or multiply first. You might get it done, but you'll never know why it worked.

Midas... yes, it's all done with ShowXpress. I then saved shows on my "Plus" version of the software, so the DJs who work for me, can simply push a button of the show they want. I use the "plus" for that reason... a novice can work the lights without a computer once it's programmed.

You can download the program for free at "ChauvetLighting.com" and play for a while. First thing you do is enter your fixtures into the software and give the system the "fixture protocol" of the ones that aren't listed... it's pretty easy once you've done it a few times. this program is VERY powerful, and the "Generator" page is the most amazing thing available. It allows you to program an entire show in a minute or two, rather than an hour or two.
