Guys or Gals,

Somebody talk to me about these Peavey amps. My whole rig I just bought is EV. I have my local Peavey dealer trying to get me to buy IPR amps for my small mobile rig. Which consist of EV-TX1181 (18"subs) x2, EV-TX-1122 (12" tops) x2 and currently an EV-Q1212 amp (40 lb amp). I am adding a EV-DCONE to this set up as I like what it does for my big rig.

The IPR3000 he showed me today weighs less than my 17" laptop (not really but close, really close). When I look at the numbers on the IPR5000 and IPR7500, they are mind boggling for the weight, price point and amp draw at 1/8 and 1/3 power output. Better than my EV amps on paper and they have crossover built in, DSP for anothe $200.00 if you like.

I opened up the IPR3000 and there is nothing inside, well not much anyway, a motherboard with a bunch of capacitors and wires. Can this thing really produce that kind of power, stay together and sound like my EV amps.

Someone who has used these things talk to me, yes they are Chinezzze, but then so is all my EV-TX stuff and I am very impressed with its build and sound quality.

If I were you I would go with EV Amps First, Crown Second and QSC Third.
 
I've been using an IPR3000 since last October. I bought a 2nd early this year. I'm now running stereo tops off one amp and a pair of 4-ohm JBL subs off the 2nd amp. This rig kicks arse and I'm getting compliments on my sound at gigs. These IPRs have run in all kinds of environments including outdoor gigs, heat, cold, etc. My only wish is that they'd start shipping the 5000s and 7500s but to be honest, I'm not even tapping the amps I've got.

Please do a A & B test of them before buying. The difference in sound might not be much, but it could also be huge!
Especially on Subs. My Qsc PlxII 3602 sound whimpy and runs out of gas fast on subs. When i switched to the bigger Powerlights the same subs now sound totally different and hit way harder.

When it comes to amps, Sometimes if it sounds too good to be true.....it prob is!
 
If you can deal with the blue glow, these are not bad amps. Personally I plan to upgrade my current (heavy) GX5's that I use for small DJ gigs and for stage monitors but I'm waiting for the Crest version (to start shipping in quantity to get the price down) without the goofy glow.

still using these amps?
 
We use 1 ipr3000 to run both our tops and bottoms, and would never go with another amp....for the price and weight, it is all the amp we need for what we do....but keep in mind, we only do weddings of about 150-200 people. if you are doing large school events, get 2 (one for your tops and one for the bottoms) and you will be fine.

I did respond to your email but will go back over it here. Yes, I'm still using these and still thrilled with them, my back especially. I use 2 IPR300s and use their built-in crossover. One amp has 2, 4-ohm JBL 18" subs, one hanging off each channel. Basically a couple thousand watts of bottom. For tops I'm running stereo with 1 Carvin PM153 (3-way) hanging off each channel. I believe that'd be 500-watts per side, stereo. I've banged on this rig pretty hard and it has eaten up every Nashville venue I've thrown at it. When I first picked one of these boxes up I was like you, I said "No way" but man, they have not failed to perform at all. By the way, power usage is very efficient. Even pumping, I usually only tap about 3-4 amps of juice.

As a side note, I've just finished setting up for my 3rd wedding since Friday. First Monday I've ever done and yep, it's the IPRs that will be melting faces tonight. I have a military wedding the full sabre entrance.
 
I have a QSC 2450 amp that is still working. It's been in the shop once because the power button wouldn't turn on. I simply love it! It is very heavy though. It built to last! No junk in there. I've had that same amp over 10 years. It's the fisrt amp I bought when I got back into DJing. I used to have 2. One was to power a pair of earthquakes.

Good point. You have no backup. Now let's compare your rig to mine. The QSC is just a fudge less punch than my IPR3000s. I have 2 of them, weighing 12 pounds in total. You have 1, weighing 45 pounds. Did you get that? Your single amp weighs almost FOUR TIMES what my pair of amps weigh. If your amp dies, you're out of business. If I lose an amp, I can split the remaining amp to still run bi-amp. Did I mention that BOTH my amps weigh about one-quarter what your SINGLE amp weighs?

If one of your amp dies and you use the remaining one to run tops on one channel and subs on the other, you will then have to change your Software/Mixer's output first to Mono, right? How about the new Load on the amp? If you are running 4 ohm speakers and you put two on one amp channel, is your amp capable of sustaining a 2 ohm load for the rest of the night? Lastly, since you use the onboard DSP, how will you divide the correct frequencies, Mids & Highs to one side and Bass to the other? Don't you think in your case it is better to have a backup amp? You say they are so light, so why not carry an extra?

I ran a single IPR amp for the first 6 months, ran fine just not as much punch as current. Yes, the switch to mono in my software would take about 5 seconds. I don't use onboard DSP, my amps have a couple of dip switches that will divide the frequencies at 100hz. The whole change over would take about 30 seconds in an emergency situation. As for backup, I'm already carrying 2 amps.

When you set those switches you ARE using onboard DSP. Do you have switches for each side of the amp? That was my question if you are going to use different frequencies for each channel.

Yes, there is a 3-position switch for each side of the amp (if I remember it correctly).

I still have the 2 dual 15" speakers and the QSC amp is what powers them. Now just so you'll understand I don't plan on using all the gear in the basement unless someone comes up with a certain amount they want to pay us if that's what the job requires. There's a lot of work involved in moving all that gear and setting it up. Honestly the van I have just won't fit all the gear in the basement. So that would require either we use mine and my partners van to get all that gear moved or rent a U haul truck to get it all moved. So for us to do that we would need to be compensated what we feel is a fair amount of money.

That's a big reason why when I had the earthquakes we rarely used them because potential clients weren't willing to spend at least $800.00 to get us to bring them to a gig. I certainly wasn't willing to use them for a client say that only wanted to pay us $400.00. Now do you understand?
