PCDJ Dex 2 Software

I have been testing driving this software for about a week, some of the features I really like and other I just need to continue getting used to. I purchased a copy and did a full show with it last night.. the event was about a 50/50 (50% karaoke / 50% music for dancing etc...). This software handled both types, worked flawlessly with the DJ2Go controller, no crashes. Pretty solid so far. Support has been pretty good addressing issues, only 1 or 2 things I do not care for, but those are supposed to be corrected in a update this summer.

Were you afraid of Serato, Traktor and VDJ? ;)
 
Do you have an issue with PCDJ? In many cases, it's a better tool than some of the ones you mention. I use the Red Mobile version.

I tried it before and do not like it, too lame for me. I prefer Traktor hands down!
 
Let's be perfectly honest here. While there are a few club guys here and certainly some others benefit from cue points, looping, and such .. the VAST majority of what many here do can be done with Windows Media Player .. or iTunes or WinAmp .. or any of the myriad of DJ applications. The software in most cases for the folks here, is not the limiting factor.

So while I use PCDJ (mostly) and Rockit (occasionally) and VDJ (starting to more and more), I also use iTunes (and could conceivably use WinAmp should the occasion arise).

If I believed the application was limiting me (and I buy many to experiment), I would change. If someone can offer a reason to go to another app .. other than I'm somehow bringing disgrace to the DJ profession .. I'm all ears.

I'm thinking of buying that American Audio 19MXR mixer as it's already mapped to Dex and Red Mobile 2 according to PCDJ.

Hey, don't get yer panties all up in a wad! Keep doing yer thing, to each his own. Using Winamp, and Windows Media Player and a few others WILL limit me from some of the $$$$$$ I could make from other type of Gigs that call for the more advanced DJ Software. I only wanted to know why the OP chose what he did. Carry On.

Well the Bose Boombox and the Dollar Store cables haven't, so you never know ... :)

Thats right, they two make and also save me money. I used the Bose AWM last month for 3 hours on a Sunday and made $150.00.

See .. who knows what exciting things await you if you do a gig with WinAmp or iTunes ...
 
Before I dived into the digital realm of djing, I gave PCDJ a try. To be honest it was not bad at all. This was back in 2007. My buddy ran it with a Dac 2 controller and it was ok. I stood with spinning CD's until 2010. Thats when I dived right into Serato Scratch Live. I was always a turntable, cdj type of dj so Serato offered me the best and stable option that works well for me.

But PCDJ has it's place and I think it's a good choice for a digital dj.

Dex was made by a foreign company -- Belgium or Denmark if I recall correct.

PCDJ, is simply a marketing company -- they haven't written their own software for years. They asked me to buy the remaining stock of their controllers a few years back -- I declined.

They are the reason Rockit was created -- cause their software sucked so bad.

They may -- it's up to the user to do it. I cannot afford to buy every controller on the market and map them, and I see no real use for them either.

BTW, Rockit is fully compatible with touch screen computers -- so you can build a skin with just the controls you need. It's a platform, from which you can extend it to do many things. That's not my job -- my job is to write the platform, and let the users take advantage of all the features.

It's the "they may" part that has me waffling on this $300.00 purchase.

Heck, I'll buy the mixer and PAY someone to map it for me. It's the lighting of the buttons part that confuses me.

and this is why this software will never be the go to product, it's great program, but most of want a program that is plug and play compatible with the controller we purchase. it's to high priced for not being natively matched with at least the most popular controllers

If it were me, and I had some absolute need for a controller -- I'd pick up a Denon 4500, since they are hard coded into Rockit.

You can pick one up used, for about the same price...
