Ever heard these? LOUD is an understatement...and if it's near/at limit so are the tops...
Have you read the manual? Are you in the default configuration? Are you sending a hot signal? Have you crossed the tops and the bottoms?

I run the 12's and 18's at 95% of my events. I have never had an issue with them.

The TS315 is a FINE speaker.😊 Everyone on this board LOVES Alto speakers and would probably recommend you buy a replacement. However, if you’re intent on the speakers you listed, I like the Yammies!

Yamaha for the WIN! I love Yamaha!

Alto guy here though...

I also love my Altos...So I am also a proponent of simply purchasing another TS315 to replace the won you broke by dropping and letting it fall down a flight of stairs.

If the cabinet does not look horrible, I bet the problem could simply be a cable connection inside the speaker came loose. ...Or a new amp is needed. If it is a new amp, then might as well buy a new speaker any way since the outside of the cabinet probably looks damaged, and not worth taking to gigs.

I will also say that you should always put a speaker cover on powered speakers when transporting. If the speaker had a cover on it, it might have saved it from the stair drop.

I'll give it a listen next time..haven't really listened for the bass to break up.

The Yamaha DXR have a limit too...I think I got there once. Only once. And no distortion/break up.

I have heard them. Pretty nice sub that gets fairly loud. What I'm saying is that most owners of the etx18sp's say that the limit lights are more of a pre limit light. Meaning that actually have a little more in them when most would think to start backing them down.

Additionally, once they notice you're really trying to push it, they won't just clip, they will continue to play at a lowered level. Continue to push it and it will clip - you may have other issues as well at this point.

I've owned the Yamaha DXS12 and the Yorkville UCS1 subs and have run sound on JBL SRX single and double 18s. I've also owned many 15" tops .. Yamaha, JBL and Yorkville. I find the EVOX 8 on par with any of them (except the Yorkville, which was a 3-way, 5-driver beast) for total output, bass output and clarity. Here is a video I did comparing my JBL PRX612m tops over the Yamaha DXS12 subs vs the EVOX ..

Steve149 I want to thank you for this video. I found it on youtube while I was searching for an array system for DJing. I was originally very interested in the new JBL PRX One, but at the time nobody had one to demo. When I started to look for alternatives I ran into your video and added the RCF J8 to my potential list. On my last wedding road trip (5,000 miles 6 weddings and a COL) I found a GC that had The RCF J8, Evox 8, PRX One, 3 Bose array systems, the HK Audio Polar, 2 LD systems, and the Evolve 50. In a head to head against all of them (and a K12.2) the RCF J8 impressed me enough to order 2 of them. I am thrilled with the crystal clear loudness that these things put out! These are some very serious speakers for a wedding DJ and the portability is wonderful. I was a QSC man before these. The J8 destroyed the K12.2 in a head to head!

Sadly, Steve has passed on. :(

On a good note, he was a great person and a great contributor to our site and did quite a few comparisons.

Out of the list posted, the closest i've got to owning any of that is the FBT Promaxx 114a which is a superb speaker. Really compact too, same size cab as the 12" but with a 14" woofer. I had the active versions as well and for me they were a really nice speaker.

Right now I'm using the Bose L1 Pro8's which are just astounding.
