Hi, I wanted to introduce myself and needed advice or best powered speakers.

I currently own a pair of TS315 and they have served me well. I had a mishap (dropped 1 it down a flight of stairs) which stopped working.

So I've planned an upgrade as opposing to replacing the same speaker. I have reviewed a few tops and have narrowed this down to QSC k12, Rcf art 312a/712a mk4, FBT promaxx 112 and Yamaha DSR112.

My application is for mobile DJing and I will be adding a sub later. Unfortunately, there aren't dealers nearby so I can't listen to any of the above hence why I ended up with the cheaper speakers.

Has anyone had any experience or can give advice?

Thanks

Welcome to the board. We do have an introductions thread here if you get a chance drop by.

I've heard the K12 and the Yamaha both are fine speakers. What are you looking at in terms of normal crowd numbers and demographics?

They are all good speakers. Without knowing where you are, your budget, or what service locations are near, I can't recommend one specifically, but they all sound great. 12" speakers are generally all-arounders, but can use a sub for heavy bass (EDM, D&B, Rap, heavy rock). The K12 has been replaced by the K12.2 .. DSR is being phased out for the newer DZR.

The TS315 is a FINE speaker.😊 Everyone on this board LOVES Alto speakers and would probably recommend you buy a replacement. However, if you’re intent on the speakers you listed, I like the Yammies!
Yea .. e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e ... cough, cough

I'm based in UK, the budget isn't too much of an issue. The crowd I have gigged for at most is 300 in a medium sized venue. I must admit I did love the Altos but have heard the ts318s aren't that great and tend to fail on the bass response, it's one of the reasons why I was leaning towards the Rcf 312a, I viewed a video by Brian Redd who rated these better than the K12s.

P. S that was 8 years ago and the Rcf 712 and the FBT promaxx are out.

Not the 312 .. maybe some of the other RCF like the 700 series mentioned or the incredible HD-32A. I'm a big fan of the RCF Evox 8 as well (I have a set) .. a real good system for a mobile DJ.

I've heard the evox8 and the cs1000 and found them abit flat. My Ts315 hit low end bass. Have you have any experience with any bass bin?

I've owned the Yamaha DXS12 and the Yorkville UCS1 subs and have run sound on JBL SRX single and double 18s. I've also owned many 15" tops .. Yamaha, JBL and Yorkville. I find the EVOX 8 on par with any of them (except the Yorkville, which was a 3-way, 5-driver beast) for total output, bass output and clarity. Here is a video I did comparing my JBL PRX612m tops over the Yamaha DXS12 subs vs the EVOX ..

Love the clarity but as you know listening to speakers on YouTube doesn't do it justice.

I've looked into the EKX 12P and the EKX18SP (review by Brian Redd) and he managed to cover a gym full of 700 students for school dance. The ETX is slightly out of my budget.
How do you QSCs hold up? These were in my top 3.

My QSC's have held up rather well. I don't know Brian Redd's setup for this school dance - but while one pair (2 subs) could most likely do this, 2 pair (4 subs) would be better - especially in a gym.

As others have said, being that you have an idea of where you want to be, you probably should settle on where you want to be sub wise. Although you can mix brands, you shouldn't. IMO, the EV's sound better (wood cabs). Sets like QSC and EV are developed to work with their own systems natively .. ie: the K12 souds better when used with QSC subs, the EKX sounds better when you use their tops and bottoms, etc.

In EV active world, I own 12's and 18's from the ELX line and the ETX line. The ELX is nice. By comparison, the ETX is killer. The EKX is right in the middle and it's nice as well.

I use QSC K10s and think the entire QSC line sounds fantastic. The Yammys are also very solid, as are the RCF. That said, there's no way I'm spending $1500+ for a new pair of speakers when I could replace the broken one for $350.
But then you'd still have Altos .. :)

15" Altos. It's no secret that I'm not a fan of 15" two-way tops.
I think 15" tops are good if you can't use a sub. Otherwise, I think you give up too much clarity in the vocal ranges. I much prefer 10" or 12" tops over subs. I'm also no longer a fan of large boxes on sticks (tripod/pole) and 15" boxes are far more visually unattractive than smaller ones, though only my personal opinion. Smaller speakers have gotten very good over the last decade.
