I don't try to keep pace with technology. I wait for the technology to match pace with me.
The products and applications arrive with such frequency now that it's just unwise to adopt something before it proves itself a long term viable application and also as a company that will stay in business.
I also want to choose companies whose ethics are worthy of my business. That's not simply a political or social position. For me, the issues predate all of todays wokeness and politics. Facebook is a prime example. I dumped it a VERY long time ago because it's primary product is data-mining - NOT social media. This line of development transcends mere applications and is now routinely BUILT in to many harware devices.
I don't know how far down the road the point of CONVERGENCE is, but I'm carefully trying to leave myself OUT of it, Right now, the rate of data colletcion often exceeds the capacity of both tech and personnel to make immediate effective exploitation of it. But add better computing technology, artificial intelligence, excessive government corruption/over-reach, declining quality of education, and growing public ignorance - and the potential for a very dark and bleak period in future history is quite likely.
Every period of disasterous wars and oppression are preceeded by some type of industrial or technological advancement and it's resulting arrogance. It used to be primarily measured by advancements in weaponry, and the false sense of invincibility that is so intoxicating to pathological narcissists. Today's emerging technologies however, are new weapons of manipulation, and along with "science" (medicine) are intoxicating modern weapons of tyranny and the domain is global.
