Weddings New girl here

Hey Guys!
Thanks so much for all of the great advice. It's a lot to take in but I am certainly taking it all into consideration and trying to learn from it. No worries, I am not a fly by poster. Sometimes it can be hard for me to get on the computer for longer than checking my email. Kids seem to keep me hopping some days.
I have been in contact with the bride a few times in email. As much as I would love to sit down with her and the groom, they are both in the States and here I am in Ottawa Canada. I have sent her a ton of questions, waiting on some answers and I will still send her more. Good thing she knows me or she would think I was totally clueless. I'm not, just a little bit, but not totally.
As far as what I have been doing at dances so far, here's the scoop for anyone interested.
A few years ago our church was talking about a fundraiser dinner and dance. The problem was they could not afford a dj or band. Since my husband and I have tons of music, we said we could try our best. The night was a success and we kept them dancing all night. So from then on, each of these events we have been doing the music. I would say it's close to 45 thousand maybe even 50 thousand songs we have plus a lot of karaoke. And I am after him for a number of cd's at the moment. Most events we have had pretty good feedback but we have also had a couple of nights where the crowd just did not seem to want to dance, to anything! Those nights are hard, I tried all sorts of fav's up here and still no luck. And no requests to go by either. The most recent we pulled out the karaoke and they loved it, seemed it was a bigger hit than the dancing that night. I hate talking in front of a crowd so that is something I will need to get over. Usually I just hand the mike to my hubby which seems so much easier. lol
Maybe I will luck out and no one will ask me for a polka but if they do I know I have the Andrews Sisters, thanks ahoustondj.
So here's me in a nutshell: I'm in my 30's, I live just out of Ottawa in a small town with my hubby and our 4 sons, I grew up loving music and think about music all the time, love to make people dance and have toyed with the idea of doing radio but keep hearing there is more money in parties and weddings. OH, and my name is Cindy.

The wedding will be in Buffalo, NY. He is from here and she from there. There are a few things I know are done differently between here and there. But you are right, fun is fun. I just need to find out from the B&G what they want, I do know she wants the cha cha slide. lol What is cool (at least I think so) is this couple and friends of theirs do some swing dancing, should be interesting to watch!

We have a nice bunch of Canadian DJ's on here and from what I can tell from some of their wedding gig logs, weddings are more fun there than formal. I like that kind of a wedding.

From all of the weddings I have been to, they are more fun than formal. Once the formal first dances are out of the way, they all just want to party. I know mine (17 years ago mind you) was a blast. We were more interested in having a good time than everything looking perfect for photo ops.
One thing our dj did was have me in the middle of a large circle of all the guys in attendance and I had to dance with each one by the end of the song (I knew the bride when she used to rock n roll). Then my husband had to do the same with the ladies (Let's hear it for the boy). Poor guy could not dance to save is life and wound up doing a strip act for lack of knowing what else to do! LOL

Great idea, thanks Ron. I looked it up and will practice it. I have a stag and doe coming up in May so I should have it down pat for that.
