On special at Walmart.com is the iPad Air (not the 2) for $299 in either Grey/Black or Silver/White.

16Gb won't hold your entire song library, but will hold enough to be a solid backup device .. that also can be used for notes, prompting, etc.

I've used one (I have 3) as a backup for a few years now.

This unit also comes with Verizon LTE capability, but unless you have a Verizon plan already, I would assume you would just use it on WiFi as most people do.

Good price on a nice little tablet. Not the right time for me though, having just purchased a Microsoft Surface Pro (for WAY more than that, unfortunately). My wife would go berserk if I bought another computer... even if it is deductible[emoji4].

I have an iPad 2 (my main tablet up to last Xmas), an iPad Mini 3 (my current main one), and an iPad Air 2 (belongs to day job, so I generally don't use it unless I know I will be somewhere remote (it has an unlimited data plan on it) ... Mini is the one I typically use for hot backup as it has 128Gb storage .. though it's a bit small when you run Traktor or DJay (I have both) on it, so I typically just run iTunes.

I assume the price drops on Ipads are due to the Sept 9th Apple announcement there are rumors of new Ipads being released including a pro model with usb ports and a near 13 inch screen
 
Probably .. though these are the lower end units (current top end is iPad Air 2). The new ones (Air 3 I guess) will go on top, the Air 2 will become the entry level and these will be sold down out of inventory. Either way, they are plenty fast for single app use .. I still use my 4 year old tablet and it's fine for most things.
 
the memory at 16 gig wouldn't work for me heck My daughters high school offers an option for text books via Ipad then you don't have to pay the $200 book useage fees every year minimum requirement is 32 gig must run at leats IOS 7 so my original ipad is still my 7 year olds game toy
