My new look for 2009?

The goal is to get people to stop writing checks to "DJ" Hank Davidson. I have enough trouble getting my bank to accept
"Hank" for Henry (which Hank is a nickname for).
That wasn't my intention and I don't see what you mean.
Using a tall narrow font with either word Harley or Davidson would invoke the logo, even though yours is a serif compared to the original. And actually it does match up to other versions of the name...

Still, just a fluke. It is a common letter style.
I guess with my name being what it is, there's no way to avoid it looking familiar. (not a bad thing really)
If that's the goal, just fix the troubles at the bank. Fortunately, my bank is very lenient when it comes to accepting checks.
I love the look of the logo (color and design)

I am not saying you are NOT a professional
but someone outside of the biz might take it the wrong way.
like someone saying they are a PROFESSIONAL actor...
if they haven't heard of you...you're not a pro to THEM!

maybe want to go with something less personal

I guess it's how you take it. Most commonly, it should be regarded as an "adjective" and not a "title". Meaning that you are professional in what you provide. An actor would use it as a title. The same would be done for an MC. A DJ is a service provider while an MC is a persona.
At least that's how I see it.
After further consideration with family and friends, I think I'm going to stick with my existing name. I want to be able to keep my tag line and list of services. Also, there's the fact that I am pretty well established already.
I guess I'm just jealous of my own logos going out lately (LOL). I want a new look too!
I do like the burgundy and the new mic looks good. So, I may just do a cleaned up version of my current logo.

it's the perception of the potential client I was thinking about.
