My External hard disk is not getting detected on my laptop

Hi Guys,

I bought an Iomega 500GB hard disk a week ago. I am having Toshiba A300-20F laptop. When i 1st used the HD it was working properly, but later on it stopped detecting. Its not coming in the computer management also.
What can i do to fix this problem. Can i Solve this problem online by contacting the Iomega people. If yes, How to contact them.

Pls Help Guys.
 
First thing first. Unplug it from the laptop and shut down the laptop. Restart the laptop. Make sure external drive is plugged into the wall outlet, assuming it requires external power. Plug the drive into a different USB port on the laptop. Look on the lower right-hand corner to see if the "hardware wizard" lights up. If it does, all is well. If it doesn't, there's a good change your drive might have met its untimely death.
 
I would go back to where you bought it - tell them replace it or give my money back

then go someplace else and buy something better
 
you can lose a drive by unplugging it without shutting down properly. Hope this wasnt the case.
