Speaking of which not to be a Danny Downer but the statistics on how often CPR works are pretty shocking. I read the stat years ago in passing while helping a friend study for his paramedic exam and it's always stuck with me.
Out of hospital CPR works ~10% of the time. Even in hospital the survival rate is ~25%. Don't get me wrong if someone collapsed in front of me and didn't have a pulse I'd start CPR. However, I cannot help but think at a certain point your just abusing a corpse.
Anyone have stats on the automated defibrillators that are legally required in all sorts of places?
'In cities where defibrillation is provided within 5 to 7 minutes, the survival rate from sudden cardiac arrest is as high as 30–45 percent. Other examples show survival rates as high as 86 percent in some cases.'
