So it looks like our wedding will be Sept 19th in Ann Arbor Michigan.

We are looking for a DJ. We want someone who will be comfortable with 20-25 must play requests, no requests from the crowd, and people who may not be thrilled with dancing.

We are looking for someone comfortable with Christian, Crooner, and Country music.

We are also looking for someone who can also set up some lighting.

Anyone have any recommendations?

We are available for that date but with expenses we will be in the higher range.

As someone who has knowledge of the entertainment business I have to ask why you are going to hire a professional then tie their hands and not let them do their job?

You have a long must playlist and will take no requests even though your guests may not be dancing?

What if your guests musical tastes are not the same as yours? Will they leave after the formalities?

What if there is music that they would dance to but are not allowed to request it? Will they leave?

If your guests leave when the entertainment starts, you will have done nothing more than have a very expensive dinner party.

I am sorry if this post sounds confrontational or a bit abrupt. It is not intended to be that way. I would just like to have a better understanding of why you have made the decisions that you have. I am always the first to admit that the client is right and it is not for me to question why. But this is a public forum and perhaps there are others here that too could learn from your reasoning.

Well, when I do a show, I don't get free reign to do whatever I want. I have to fit my creativity into the Directors vision. I am letting the DJ do their job, just within the guidelines of our vision.

25 songs for a 5 hour reception doesn't seem too constrictive.

They are.

The lack of dancing will be religious in nature and not to do with the music.

I don't think we are doing dinner. I see your point, but in this case not having all the information has led you down a path of incorrect assumptions.

No problem. There are some very specific songs we want to hear (in a variety of styles all dance friendly). But the DJ can fill in the blanks and play the B/G requests in any order they want. In addition there are certain things we do not want (any foul language, booty shaking music, rap, hip-hop, etc) so ti will just be easier not to do any requests at all. We have the styles of our guests covered. We know their tastes. So in the end there is a lot of creativity, just a few guidelines.

Essoteric: If you are able to provide some of the music ahead of time so that I may include it on my system I would have no problem doing a wedding in Ann Arbor as it is only about 3 hours from me and I could visit some relatives while there....

PM me the details and we'll see if we are a match....

That's a very cool venue, btw.

For those who don't know, it's a converted train depot.
