Mic sensitivity on standalone effects?

I have an Eliminator LED effect that runs standalone, I just turn it on and it moves to the music. A few events ago the volume sensitivity crapped out...basically it barely would detect any sound even if turned all of the way up. If I clap loud right near it, it will move but with the sound only if the speaker is right next to it, basically. Thinking about opening it up. Any advice on what to look for? Something loose or something I can mess with?

It has a little mic in there and a little sound activated circuit the little mic may be dead or the circuit may have a part that has failed.

Figured something like this...it does still work but only if the sound is VERY loud, does not respond as it should.

Any recommendation on what to look for? Something loose? Is it something worth messing with, trying to repair or have repaired?

If it's older/way out of warranty, and it still runs programs without the sound activation mode, you might want to run it like that. It will likely be difficult/expensive to fix. Have you dropped it or bumped it lately? If you're intent on opening it up, look for loose connections or any bad/loose solder points. Or it could be the mike element; see if anything looks funky (in a bad way).

If you've got other lights that run sound-active, maybe just let that one "freestyle."

I would think the sensitivity knob (potentiometer) may be busted.
If you open it up, you may be able to adjust it.
But only if the warranty has expired.
