Mackie SRM-450 v2 and SWA1801

okay Fred It actively shakes the foundation asides that one day and even then the boom was in the room just minus the tops. I used the LS800 at my gig Where all I had to do was babysit a couple song lists along with the microphone for four lovely girls in lingerie and other slinky go go costumes For Triple H Thursdays which I take home 100 dollars for a couple hours at a pub in the afternoon. Off to help out a good friend. Catch up with you comedians later on tonite unless your working.
 
So I have been searching around some more and came up with a couple other solutions.

What about 2 Behringer B1520 Pro's with 2 Behringer B1800x subs Both would be powered by a Behringer EP4000 amp, I guess I would Bi-Amp the system and get an appropriate crossover to split the sound. This setup would come in around $2100 but I would have to carry around 2 amps which wouldn't be a really big deal


Or I was also looking at 2 QSC K-12's and a single Mackie 1801 sub. It would be around $2,900.

Which would be most suited for the School Dances? I think I can get more power out of the Behringer subs, but the SPL doesn't seem to be as loud. Also they don't list the sensitivity of the speakers either.

I really want to try and stay around the $2500 mark for a system at first and can always add to and upgrade it as needed.

Let me chime in my support & recommendation for the EV TourX line.

Don't hodge-podge your system with equipment that will require tons of processing and multiple amplifiers to make it sound....well sound half-way decent.

I was the first guy to own the TourX's. (I'm not gloating here, just hoping to give you a bit of help in making a large sound equipment decision.) My bread-n-butter is also school events, so I know from experience these bad boys will make the kiddos happy!

If you want a set of 15's and 18's that will absolutely ROCK any school event, dig a bit deeper into the pockets (not much though) and pull the trigger on the TourX's. You won't be disappointed. How could you be? No EQ! No Crossover! One, yes only ONE, amp. And, it weighs less than 18 pounds (CP3000s). How much more simplier can it get...run one channel for the tops, one for the subs. (Or, swing for another CP3000s and have a backup and seperate amps for each stack.)

If you want serious THUMP and SPL for you gigs, this combination will do it for you.

I was talking to Ben from NlFX and he said the same thing as you. Question though. How in the world are you running that whole system on just 1 Amp. I know that if you daisy chain the speakers they will run at 4 ohms instead of 8. But still. That's quite a bit of power from 1 amp.

Actually, you can run it a couple of different ways.

Channel A - tops
Channel B - subs

or

Channel A - one side
Channel B - other side

I use the second option. Come out of the amp, into the sub and then a short daisy into the top. All the proper processing is built within the boxes. I refer to is as EV POWER. ;)

Dat's the way (option 2) I run my EV Eliminators (mains and subs) and I'm using the same amp as Randy and have had no problems.

Trust me, the amp has PLENTY of power. This is the same company that AC/DC, Led Zepplin, Metallica, Kenny Chesney, Zack Wylde, and about 100 other major artists rely on for their concert sound.

Aside from the EV amp, are there any less expensive options? Because if we went with the Tour X tops, TX1152 and a pair of TX1181 subs. We would already be at our budget. The amp would add another $1600 to that number and we would be about $1000 over our maximum. Are there any comparable amps from either, QSC, Peavey, or another company that can deliver the right power for a good price.

I am pretty much sold on the Tour X speakers. And after we get a few other gigs under our belts we can replace the cheaper Amp with the EV one. But we do need to at least get started somewhere.

I already bought a few things used off Craigslist to save some money. Mostly items that can't really be bad, ie Light Truss, Mixer rack (Gator 10x6) and some other odds and ends. I plan on buying a Denon HD-2500 to use as a midi controller and then we are planning on buying a used Denon X-800 mixer, unless we can find a different solution.

We already have a wireless mic system that will work for now.

I really want to thank you guys for your help. Especially Ben from NLFX.

That would work great for the price.

Also what about instead of using 2 TX1181's I went with a single TX2181 Its still 4 ohms so it will be driven the same. But would the output be as much as the 2 TX1181's?

Also I could center the TX2181 in the middle and even hide it under my table for a cleaner look.

And it would save me about $350. I know I then have less flexibility with the system because I would always be lugging around that big double sub. But it only weighs 50 lbs more. :sqwink:

What about a Peavey IPR 4500 or the IPR DSP 4500. They are around the $450 - 550 range and look to put out more power then the EV amp. Or are they total crap and I shouldn't be looking there?

If it were me, I'd purchase the amp and only one of the single 18's until you could purchase the second one to match. I assure you, it will have more than enough thump for most of your events.

In fact, there's another guy here who I don't recall the name, that I helped do the exact thing and he's very satisfied with the output and sound of the dual 15 & single 18 combo.

Ben is hooking me up. Getting the 2 TX1152, & 2 TX1181, and the EV Q1212 amp. :sqbiggrin:

Ben broke it down for me and getting the better system over 5 years is like $5 more per gig, depending on the amount of gigs you do of course.
 
This is the why I chose my expense

When I sold my Mackie tops and gained 1500 I actually was only spending the same as you more per gig for my investment. Guess what? This yr I booked my gigs up from last yr covering the fuel price increase plus the added fee paid for a premium sound system.:sqwink:
