Let's see if we can keep this on topic.
In regards to having a workshop come to a small rural area (such as mine), that will rarely ever happen....unless YOU want it to. See www.armdjs.com. Robbie Britton WANTED to bring an event to his hometown and made it happen, and it's been very successful.
That being said, I don't have the desire to bring it to me, so I go to it. I flew to San Francisco in June of 07 to be a part of the Love Story workshop that Mark offered. In June of 07 I was charging $925. Today...$1750. Now certainly there have been many other investments I have made in myself that have attributed to that raise, but the Love Story workshop was one of them and is probably the one consistent item that clients and guests rave about in a positive manner at weddings I perform for them.
In regards to learning from a local circle of DJ's I think that's great. However, everyone must learn to stretch and grow and oftentimes that includes leaving the nest of your home area. The people that are doing the same old, same old all the time will soon become stale for a millenial bride who may be wanting something different from the status quo.
One more point: Seminar = sit in the room and listen to the talking head go on and on about the subject and absorb as much as you are able to.
Workshop = More learning and doing than sitting and listening. You get to practice what is gone over, given critique and praise about what you've given for communication both verbal and non-verbal, and concepts are shared and discussed more openly.
Open yourself up for learning (regardless of who the teacher is). It can be a phenomenal way to grow your business.

I'm with you on that thought.
You two are thinking alike on this one. I must be changing because I agree.
