Michael Jackson took others styles and mixed them all into his own as he made them his own. Mick Jagger has said Little Richard was one he emulated and who had influence on him. I suppose he would be different though as he apparently likes girls.
what I find interesting is no one has mentioned any rock act....is there no Bon Jovi or Aerosmith out there?
half the people on this board would not know who they are....to be lifelong, you have to have more than a simple internet following....and Maroon 5, while popular now, will be in the "who?" bin 10 years from now
I agree with Patrick. Though I really like Cage The Elephant many dont. I disagree about Maroon 5. They have already made themselves a household name and Adam Levie will be a force even if Maroon doesnt stay valid.
These bands continue to be MASSIVE sellers...30 and 40 years into their careers. Aerosmith will finally release a new studio record and tour behind it this year. Add Van Halen to the list. They have a new single dropping NEXT WEEK and the album follows next month. Most likely, it will ship platinum.
And there is the problem....Maroon 5 will not be a lifelong bestseller because of this....I think they fall into the Matchbox Twenty category, where the singer will be around a long time and the band will not be. You will probably still be talking about Levine and Rob Thomas 15 years from now, but you will not be talking about the bands.
